coolent temp sensor fault code issue or maybe not

my sc clio 182 been running lumpy on tickover the last week or so and sometimes the revs bottom out on slowing down and on the odd time its stalled coming up to juctions ... had it on the fault code machine the other day and the coolent temp sensor came up with a fault and was reading really low temps, then today the car just died on me after a 20 min drive home ...then wouldnt start,would a fooked temp sensor course this issue?
