Everything on the car works properly, apart from the fuel consumption! it just guzzles and guzzles! (possibly because im used to the 1.2 courtesy boat) but its raised the rev limiter to 7800 rpm on the guage, but in the docs that the renault french bloke sent me it goes to 7450 rpm, adding 8 bhp in conjunction with a "zorst" (he gave the part number for an alpine model). These are apparently group N items. The car seems to be really really fast at the moment, but as i said earlier - ive been in a 1.2..... It does seem pretty fast, as i was able to keep up with and pass an escort cosworth (sorry for the scrubby comparison, but thats what happened!) The extra revs enable me to hang on to the gear and the next one is much higher up in the rev range, giving more grunt in each gear. Did anyone find out the differences of gear ratios between mk.1 and mk.2 172s? is the final drive different? I would love an ultra close 1.2 gear box, as i was toasted by a fiesta mk.2 XR2 (with a turbo engine), it had ultra close gearing and "she spooled".

Simon, sorry to ask again, but does the immobiliser work ??..

if so, did the guy have a device to communicate with the ecu via the service connector under the dash ??..

he would have had to have, first, read your transponder and security code, then programmed that into the ecu..

cheers m8

Joe.

He didnt do anything in the dash. He plugged something into the sensor on the throttle when i turned it on. He also did a reset of the ecu(?) Five pumps of the accelerator then off for 30 secs then turn it on and it works. Does this mean my immobiliser wont work ? The only thing that didnt work was my stereo, but i just put the code in and it works a.o.k. I have the old ECU sitting in a cupboard. 3 Renault Garages didnt notice it had a different ECU. It looks identical (external appearance) to the original, just programmed differently i guess. The mid range seems to be better. I dont know how to check whether the immobiliser works or not!? the red led is still flashing on the dashboard etc.

Ok, ill give it a go. If i took it into renault and they did that trick with the code going to the dash etc. Would they notice the ecu?
