Couple of "odd behaviour" items.

  Black Gold 182FF
Just picked up a Phase 2 172 from a friend of a friend. Car seems straight enough for what it cost, few rattles but nothing too major. Two things I've noticed so far though:

1) The cigarette lighter. At first I thought it wasn't working, because when I put my USB converter in it to charge my phone, nothing happened (there's a green status light on the converter which wasn't lit). The ring around the socket doesn't seem to be lit either. However, the Renault cigarette lighter DOES work, so there's definitely current there. Are the sockets an odd size compared to other manufacturers perhaps, so my converter might be too deep to fit in properly? The fuses seem OK, as the radio and the heated rear screen are both working fine which I believe are run from the same fuse.

2) When the windows were all the way up, I pulled both switches up just to make sure. The hazard lights flash. This can't be normal behaviour, can it?

Anyone else had similar problems?

The fag lighters can be an arse to get things to connect sometimes,
my sat nav comes and goes in terms of charging.

Hazard lights with the windows definitely shouldn't happen. :S

Hazard lights doing that mean the UCH is nearing its death.

I had the exact same problem!

Ah, fair enough. Since that's the only symptom, I'll just leave it for now since it seems that dealers have to be involved so it's probably not going to be a cheap fix. As for the cig lighter, I'll have to see if I can get a smaller converter or something. I hardly ever use my phone as a satnav but when I do it's cos I'm going a long way...

There are plenty of Clio specialists in the traders section,
they'll be someone close to you that'll be cheaper than Renault, where are you in the country?

Diamond Motors are near me (I'm in Nottingham). But would they be able to sort it? I've read in a few threads that once a UCH is programmed to a car, that's it, so they can't be re-used unless you take ancillaries like the ECU and immobiliser from the donor car too?

Diamond motors seems like the best place to go, mick's a VERY knowledgable bloke.

But like you said, leave it! It's not affecting the car as such.

Yeah, that's the only symptom so I can live with it for a while. Not sure how long the car will last anyway, it's really just a cheap-but-sporty runaround to replace my Fabia that I sold recently, if I decide that Renault ownership is definitely for me then I'm likely to save up a bit of cash and look for a better example anyway :)

Cheers for the help, all :)

A virgin UCH can just be fitted and it'll pick the immob codes up on first power, then it just needs configing with clip and your away. Mick will be able to sort it no probs and new UCHs are a lot cheaper than they used to be.

If you want to pop in I'll put my test UCH unit on to see if it resolves the hazzard/window switch issue for you. It'll make buying a new one easier to bare knowing it will sort it out properly and I can do the config work to if you like.

Great, thanks Mick. I'll give you a bell sometime and drop in when you're not too busy, you're only about 10 mins away from home I think :)

I was having the same issue with the cig lighter - the lighter plug would definitely heat up but a usb adapter wouldn't seem to be able to get any current. Ended up dropping a folded up bit of folded aluminium foil in the bottom of the cig lighter and now the usb adapter works fine. Guess the foil just creates a better connection for the current to pass through...
