CPU Help

  Punto/Clio GTT
cpu came today for the gf's pc. stripped it down, put it in and booted it up.

in the load screen it comes up as AMD Athlon 1800XP (1.4ghz).

This is the item i bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=200121656739&rd=1&rd=1

an 2800XP (2.083Ghz)

now im guessing that i have to alter the modifyer in bios as i had to do this before on my old one.

ive found this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_XP_microprocessors

and i *THINK* its this one

Athlon XP 2800+ 2083 MHz 512 KiB 333 MT/s 12.5x 1.65 V 68.3 W February 10, 2003 AXDA2800DKV4D
but in my BIOS, the fsb only goes from 133mhz to 266mhz

ideas??

also, i dont paticularly want to take this processor out to check the serial number as its a motherboard out job to get the heatsink back on.

so i wanna try alter it first, if its possible, if not ill have to check the serial number i guess

right ended up dropping the cpu out and it isnt the one described.

its this

Athlon XP 3000+ 2100 MHz 512 KiB 400 MT/s 10.5x 1.65 V 68.3 W May 13, 2003 AXDA3000DKV4E

my motherboard supports 2800+ or higher speeds.

and 133-280mhz.

ideas?

Whats the multiplier set at? if u get the FSB to 266 u only need a multiplier of 8

  Punto/Clio GTT
ok the fsb goes from 100mhz upto 280mhz in my bios

plus all the multipliers from 1 upto 12.5/13.

my motherboard in the book says it supports 200/266 and 333 mhz front side bus.

the cpu thats in is Athlon XP 3000+ 2100 MHz 512 KiB 400 MT/s 10.5x 1.65 V 68.3 W May 13, 2003 AXDA3000DKV4E

k well i reckon its gonna be a case of trial and error tbh..... i'll have a google and see if i can find an answer

Edit: Try 166 FSB or 333....thats what its meant to run at

motherboard only goes from 100mhz upto 280mhz. i can select anything in there in 1mhz changes.

ill try 166 next, what multiplier?

also, someone said to try updating the bios. but ill need a floppy xp boot disc with new bios on it :(

f**king pissing me off now tbh.

its either sort this multiplier so its about 2Ghz or send it back and say hes sent the wrong item, which he has

That's a Barton core Athlon. The multiplier should be 12.5 for the cpu in question (I.e 166.6 * 12.5 = 2083MHz)

this is the details im getting off wikipediea though

Athlon XP 3000+ 2100 MHz 512 KiB 400 MT/s 10.5x 1.65 V 68.3 W May 13, 2003 AXDA3000DKV4E
saying its gotta be run at 10.5x400mhz

but my motherboard only goes upto 280mhz.

i tried;

200x10.5
266x8
166x12.5/13

everytime the computer resets, doesnt beep, it doesnt show my system infoo, the monitor just goes on standby

"If" that's the cpu you have in your possession then it's clearly not you one you paid for and not what was specified in the Ebay auction.

What makes you think it's the AXDA3000DKV4E and not the AXDA2800DKV4D? I guess you're looking at what's printed on the chip?

yea the actual sticker on the chip gives that serial number

Contact the seller in that case. If your motherboard wont support the chip/FSB then there's no magic answer unfortunately.

It could just be a dead cpu anyway.

see if it was a 2400 or a 2600 hed sent ide soon send it back, but hes sent a better chip, if i can get it to work, sweet, but if i cant then obviously ill send it back.

im going through the process of flashing the bios and booting from a floppy disc.

is this really gonna make a difference?

my booklet for with my motherboard says my motherboard "Supports 2800+ or higher speed"

ive had the cpu running though, when i first popped it in it came up 1800 (1.4GHz)

anyway, ive emailed the seller and asked him to supply the one he advertised or offer a refund.

cheers for the help anyway

Flash BIOS. I don't think 2800 to 3000 was a major step, so will probably be fixed in the latest BIOS. They don't release them because they feel like it...
