CQ Finest, Auto Finesse, Question/Rant.

  Golf 7.5R & Clio 200
Hi,

I have a question about wax and Cquartz Finest. I have been meaning to ask this for a while now, please also see the rant within.

I attended Modified Nationals recently, and Auto Finesse had a stand there. I went over and had a chat with a chap, unsure of his name. I wanted to have a look/feel of Hog Hair Brushes and ask what they would recommend I use on my car out of their products.

I was a bit.. Miffed after my chat though. I assume they have to treat everyone as an amateur, but I did feel like I was spoken to like a bit of a fool.

The fella I spoke too, said he would recommend using a wax over Cquartz Finest. I questioned this, as I thought it was a bit pointless, and don't believe the wax would bond/fully work. It may also reduce the effectiveness of CQ Finest.

When I questioned this, the response was literally shock, and I got the impression he thought I knew nothing about this sort of thing. After leaving I was actually quite annoyed, as if I was/am genuinely incorrect, I'd have appreciated it if I were told, and not almost laughed at.

Could anyone clear this up for me?

I must admit, I think I will be avoiding Auto Finesse after this encounter.

How were they to know you were an enthusiast detailer and not an amateur?

Wax will probably bond better over a nano sealant than it would anything else. In my experience Zymol Carbon worked best over Wolfs body wrap than over a glaze or bare paintwork. I for one like to use nano sealants, CQUK right now, as a protective coat against scratches and marring and Use a sacrificial layer or wax or spray sealant. That way I can benefit from the scratch resistant coating and maintain the glossy finish over time. And I get to spray some QD on my paintwork after washing qhich makes my life all that little more exciting.Plus I maintain Gloss levels and water beading that way.

They weren't to know, which is why I said I assume they have to treat everyone as an amateur. It was more the manner they handled it I didn't like.

So in your experience you havnt experienced any issues waxing over this sort of coating? Thats interesting, I had heard differently, every days a school day and all that, all it needed was a 30 second explanation/customer service and they would probably have made a sale on the brushes and illusion. Shame really.

They are selling their own products but in finest's case I would suggest a wax until a long way down the road.

James will no doubt see the thread and want to respond himself although it has been mentioned a few times that they aren't always the easiest to talk to at shows.

Anyway avoid the wax for now chap. Reload and Hydro2 are all you need for now.

If anything the coating like any ceramic coating is an amazing to wax over but you would be covering what is imo the best sealant/ceramic sealant on the market at the moment.

Do you want to wax over it?

Cheers for commenting, was hoping someone such as yourself would!

I fully understand they were their to sell their products. But the same product isn't right for every customer, so perhaps selling Lather/Brushes etc or explaining the rational behind the attempted wax sale when questioned.

Customer service goes a long way! With me anyway.

Will stick it out with re-load etc, cheers fella

Exactly. With Reload and Sonax QD I dont think ill ever touch a wax again and ive got half a pot of Carbon sat in my fridge....Ill always have CQUK or similar on my paint and Ill never wax over it. Reload and Sonax are all youll need.

Ive got numerous waxes and Ill never use them !!

Not massively if Im honest, its why I wanted the coating applied, so I didn't really have too. If it was beneficial, then I would.

I think it would be unfair to comment on your experience, as there are always two sides to every story. James@AF would be mortified to hear this however as by all accounts their customer service is good.

Regarding wax over a nano sealant, there are reasons to and reasons not to. Look at new GTC1 with Silo Seal. And CQUK with reload. A good wax will purely add another hydrophobic layer and may add to the looks.

Also, as per previous Gally threads about waxes over C1 on his FRP (the first one ;) ), there is something fantastic about waxing a car as opposed to just leaving a nano sealant for 2 years.

I totally agree mate. But waxing over finest/reload is kinda detrimental. More so for winter months.

The difference in keeping the car clean is night and day.

In saying that water behaviour wise you'd be mental to wax over Finest and Reload this early after applying.

It's preference but you need to use some common sense.

As a sealant none. if you want to use as QD then apparently 50% is OK.

Sd still go back round and top it with undiluted...

Yeah don't use Reload as a QD mate. Once a month at the very most.

Look at Hydro2 for a QD. Dilute with de-ionised water 1:1 or 2:1. Hydro2 is a great product.

Also in the winter when hand application is advised against you just spray it on and pressure wash off.

Yep.

I cant comment on Hydro - I did look at it as a QD so maybe Kevin is right on that one. Unless you want a waterless wash to remove dust on the full car Id just use Reload as a QD and keep it in your car for bird s**t.

Top it off when the beading gets lows undiluted.

Or use Sonax QD instead of Reload. Like me.

If you want to yes. As a QD.

As a spray sealant which is what it is then dont bother. Reduction in beading.

Of course just seems a waste of good reload but then again if you're using it as a QD it makes sense mate.

So if I dilute it and use it after every other wash am I not just topping up the coating?

If not then ill just use it neat, but I will go through far more than I should

Yeah I suppose diluted it would be similar to using Hydro2. I'd probably say Ho2 would be a but easier but I haven't tested both back to back.
