Cruise control not stepping down

Hi all.no noticed today that I can switch the cc on and it works going up and resume etc but when I try to step down speed it doesn't do anything and if I hold the minus button down it says... Check cruise control
Anybody had this or heard of it.. The car is a clio 3 200
