CS.nets thoughts on this Nova?

Being sold by a few friends of mine. I'm not sure what the general consensus is, novas have no appeal to me and I think for £1200 you could get much more motor. Granted its only 75k miles but it's such an ugly colour. It's been repainted in some areas as the bonnet has bubbly paint and the O/S wing and bonnet are different shades - fairly noticeable in person.

What do you think of it?

There was one on PH a few weeks back, or Autotrader perhaps actually, with a genuine 36k miles and it was only £900.

£1200 quid for a 20 year old 1.2 with no tax or mot?

That's what i was thinking. Plus flakey paint work and It doesnt have the diodes in the dash so it requires you to disconenct the ht leads so it cant be pushed-started and stolen.
They're reason is it's a classic. It may be a classic but it's horrific looking imo!

Looks great, but then again I like the shape of Nova's. £700 IMO.

Just because something's old doesn't make it a classic,
now if it was the GSI then that would be a fair price seeing as it needs work, but a 1.2?

They're dreaming imo.

There are loads of 20 year old Escorts out there, but only the XR3i's and RS Turbos are considered classics,
the rest are just old Escorts.

This is pretty much what i said to them. It might get classic insurance but it's just an OLD car. A 1.2 SR rep that probably needs a laod of hidden work. It's been kept under lock up the past while. Good on fuel i'll give it that.

I know they had plans for an xe conversion but that obviously never happened.

The XR3i was the ultimate/original Chav car back in the 90s,
but the word Chav hadn't been invented yet, so we just called them tw*ts instead.

While most of you were getting your nappies changed,
McDonalds car parks were full of XR3i's perfecting handbrake turns.

You think that chav's in 2013 drive novas?

Behave, no chav would be seen dead in a nova these days, that was 10 years ago!

Bingo. Nova's have gone full circle now, pretty cool cars IMO!

^ I would say the fact it doesn't have some LET variation engine in there makes it more desirable , I would say its more of a 1k car though :)

I think it at least looks the bees knees, id drive it around.

It's such a chore to drive, pre PAS, manual choke too which is of course located within reach of knobby passengers. It smells like my Nans and she's been dead for years.

However owing to it's simplistic construction there is a HUGE amount of room under that bonnet to stash ALL sorts of things.

Isnt all that hard work part of the enjoyable experience of driving such a 'classic' motor.

My old 205 GTI had a silly twitchy throttle, no PAS, idled like a tractor and manual engine fans but i loved driving it! felt so involved.

I actually saw a chav in a nova last night it was in Wrexham and Wrexham is about 10 years behind the rest of the world so seamed fairly normal.
