Cup won’t start

  Embarrassed to say

After a drive last night I parked the cup sport and then came back to start it 5 minutes later and nothing. All i hear is a clicking noise and all the display lights come up so not the battery. The AA man came and treated it like a 50 quid banger and told me to bump start it but i fear this is going to damage it.

The car is only 3 weeks old and ive done 1500 miles on it also so how could the started motor have gone so quickly if this is the problem?

Sounds like it got to hot. It started OK when it cooled down?

You can bump it, but not too many times with the cat.

This happened to me on one of my other cars Gof gti mk2 16v, was just clicking when turning the key, bump started it and didnt have another problem after that!! Cars are temperamental sometimes.

It started from cold this morning, but then when i went back to the go a few minutes ago to start it.....it wouldnt start just the clicking noise.

What i mean is the car started this morning, but then i turned the ignition off and came back after 5 minutes and it wouldnt start - same clicking noise. The bloody aa man bump started the car in reverse, flipping pissed me off how bad these people are.

Get it in to Renault NOW as you will damage the cat if you bump start it!

The clicking noise will be the solenoid on the starter motor, theyll sort it...

sounds like the recurring problem i had on my 172. The immobiliser cable near or to do with the starter motor connection became badly connected, meaning i had to wiggle the wires if it wouldnt start. There i was about 50 zillion times with my hand in the engine bay. Sometimes it started, sometimes it didnt.

The wire is located - as you look into the engine bay, follow the ECU wires in the big black glossy wire down to a metal plate with JC and some numbers written on it, and theres some wires to the left of this (watch out for the exhaust manifold because it is VERY hot - burned my hand MANY times on that bugger!)

give them a wiggle all around there and it should start - should have persuaded the connection to the immobiliser.......

good luck

Thanks for all your help.

Okay what happened was renault assistance came last night and didnt have a clue what it was, he told me that the starter motor needed replacement.

So today i rang RAC, the guy came out looked at the starter motor area, saw the heat shield was lose and noticed that the bolt thats on the cable to the starter motor had displaced. So he replaced the bolt and the car is fine now. Really happy with RAC because would have had to wait ages to get it booked into renault to be fixed.

What happened with mine. Parked it on my driveway, went inside. Came out try to start the car NOTHING. Popped the hood, pushed the red fuel engage button and of we went again. I got it replaced under warranty. It´s allready my third red knob (Normally popps out and kills the fuelpump when you are in a accident) Some dealers even get rid off the knob and connect the cables.

good luck
