custom made exhausts

I thought they were illegal for road use?

I know some custom exhaust makers won't even make one!

"providing that the exhaust gas emitions and the noise level are not altered from the manufactures specifications, and that the exhaust gasses escape from behind the level of the front axle, there is no offence.."

IMO side exhaust would look gay on a 1*2.

But ring around some custom exhaust places and ask. Longlife?

I wasn't trying to be a willy in my reply btw :D

just from my basic understanding an exhaust gets rid of the fumes so it shouldn't matter which way it goes out really.

all depletes the ozone whichever direction it comes out :rasp:

There is for the MOT-

b. assess subjectively the effectiveness of the silencer in reducing exhaust noise to a level considered to be average for the vehicle.

Note: The level of exhaust noise should be assesed at all engine speeds required for the exhaust emissions check.

iirc Its 85db, but i cant remember.

Make your own if you can weld.

I wouldn't pay for a system to be made into a side exit as 1 of 2 things will happen.
1-You'll hate the look of it
2-You'll get supremely bored of the horrible rasp it'll make

Made a few centre sections for mates now, although its never going to be of the same quality of JP, or even one of the "better" powerflow centres, its pretty close.

On a VTS last week, I used a Peice of 2.25" stainless, weld a flange onto the cat end, take the straight pipe and the original to a local exhaust plac, get them to bend it in the main places i.e 45 or 90 degrees) and trial fit with teh back box in place so you know where to cut it. Cut it, weld on another flange and re-fit. Now you can mark where your hangers need to go, get some 8mm stainless bar, bend to shape, weld on, sorted. Honeslty, although its not mandrel bent you'd never know Powerflow hadn't made it. No knocks, bangs, leaks or cost!

Total cost=£30. iDeal.

the legal road noise limit is 98db but this is rarely tested unless when it goes for a m.o.t it is stupidly loud and even then it may not even be questioned depending on the tester, if he wants to be a real cnut he could say somthing.
