Not too sure on all this but i am looking for some advice.

I have a small removable hard drive thats 320GB thats stuffed with music and is full.

My problem is that i dropped it and now when i plug it into my laptop it does nothing.
It makes a sound and the light flashes for a min or so and thats it.

Can i take this to get all the music taken off and will someone be able to get the data?

I have looked at the PC world website and they are wanting £80.00, Does this sound about right ??

Sounds quite expensive to me. Took my sisters laptop into a local computer repair/sales place today as she has dropped it. A new 250gb hard drive and everything transferred over from the broken one for around the same price £80.

Do not use PC World. Some staff members are clued up, but majority are surreal.

Asked one for a PC case...he took me to laptop bags!!

Looked at a base unit with i5 processor (Acer) and asked how many SATA connections it had as I wanted to put my old Hard disk in...the lad tried looking though the fan cut out to see. Told him to get me a spanner and I would do it...he looked at me like I was performing blasphemy!

There will be someone local who will do it for 1/2 - 2/3 of that price as its simple enough...just takes time. See who has a good reputation in your local area as they need to provide good service to stay open...pc world dont as they will have someone else in 2 minutes later.

i'd take it apart for a start as most just use standard laptop drives

then that takes the case controller out of the equation

then stick the drive in a pc to see if it works
