DCI 100 Possible Gearbox problems !!! Maybe one for edde the DCI man :)

I have had my DCI100 for 3 months now and over the last 6 weeks it's been getting noisier and noisier

It started making a ticking type noise under hard acceleration which has steadily got worse. It's been getting more and more noticable over the last week to such a point I have considered taking it in to be looked at.

I have just driven it today and it's now started to feel strange under accelleration and decelleration. When you press the accelerator there is a delay then it seems to clunk before it takes up drive and again when you lift off you get a clunk as it goes into engine braking.

Could this be the final drive or even possible failure of the dreaded JC5 gearbox.

The care is unfortunately just out of warranty - typical :(
 
Is the car due a service/cambelt?

Is the sound depend on rpm of the engine or speed only?

COuld be a number of things has the car any history?

the clunk does sound like a mounting but the ticking would be hard to say without hearing it

Hi edde

The car has 21000 miles on the clock is just over 3 years old and has a FSH. It was owned by an old guy before me and has never really been driven. I have recently done the oil and filters to be sure all is OK in that dept.

The ticking noise happens all the time when the engine is under load and occasionally when decellerating. It almost sounds like "pinking" as if there is pre ignition if thet helps with the description of the noise.
On occasionsand sometimes you hear a whistle from the turbo but not always. Off load when you rev the engine all sounds fine and as quiet as it should be.

The other problem is with the drive - when you are in traffic and gently accellerate it hesitates for a split second then clucks when it takes up drive..... could that be a driveshaft????

You read so much about the dci100 gearboxes and that they are weak I am maybe being paranoid.

The K9K 712 ( 100bhp ) clio's are renowned for chewing gearboxes up. The box in yours will be the JR5 120 and they are specific to that model. They do fit the JR5 in other Renault's but its the last 3 digits which determin its for the clio 100 bhp.

The JR5 is possibly the worst gearbox Renault have made behind the PK6 and JC5.

Almost sorted.......

The problem with the extra noise was down to the fact the when the alarm was fitted the dealer had put the cable through the bulkhead via the grommet for the bonnet release cable so in theory I had a hole there causing more noise to be heard - Re routed cable and replaced grommet - SORTED

The ticking you occasionally hear is down the the high pressure lines which is more noticable on the 100 due to the extra power.

The jerk looks like it's the dogbone mount which has now been replaced so much improved there.

gearbox is all fine so no problems after all, phew.
