Roght then. Im saving up for a Bromleys upgrade that will take the car to 105bhp, but is there anything more that can be done beyond this?

Other than the compulsory zorst and filter?

How much is the boost effected by the chip?

Maybe a bigger intercooler off of a megane or laguna diesel? You have to question how much is worth spending..and remember the strengths of diesels, economy!

Why don t add a box like the ones they sell at http://www.tuning-system.comhttp://www.tuning-system.com? I can get you one at a fair price if you are interested. That way you wont lose the guaranty etc..

Id rather the Bromleys tuning upgrade. You get a full before and after rolling road test, plus for £30 theyll plug in their laptop and go out on the road with you driving, in order to map it to your style of driving.

Plus its only up the road from me anyway.

How will a bigger intercooler help on a small engine?

Will make the air cooler..... coolers air makes it denser.... denser air enables you to put more fuel in..... more fuel with the right amount of air makes you go faster

i have heard that the main restriction on a TD engine is cooling, silly power and torque gains can be seen from bigger/better intercoolers.

Used to have a BX DTR(first car bought of my mum) and remember it had a large intercooler with all the ducting under the hood to feed air. Bizarrely this went over the engine, so it must have been fed with lovely warm air.

Will check under bonnet tonight (Ive only had it a couple of weeks and I havent got as far as opening the bonnet yet.)

Isnt it a turbo diesel then? I thought that if you put bigger intercooler on a small engine, the intercooler will drain off the boost cos its too big, ie not enough cold air actually in the intercooler, therefore, not enough cold air being drawn through it to the engine?

Maybe Im thinking of summit else?

The boxes for the gas (?) versions (1.2 16v etc.) are not worth it. BUt the diesel boxes give around 20-30 bhp. The Pug 206 HDI has got around 120 bhp with a box..

Where is the intercooler. It was a bit obvious on the BX as it was over the exhaust manifold and was the most obvious thing under the bonnet.

Couldnt see diddly squat when I looked under thebonnet of the Clio.(After removing the soundproofing cover)

This is assuming it has an intercooler of course.

The 80bhp definetly has, the 65bhp one doesnt. It maybe side mounted.

heard some silly claims that are possible with the DCi 80, and in all of them a larger intercooler is mentioned. I woudl think from past experience with the Astra the best thing you can do is fit a larger head gasket (reducing compression) winding the boost up a bit and fitting a better intercooler. When I did this with the Astra it really went like a rocket by comparrison. Never rrd it but I would conservatively say it went from 75bhp to well over 100bhp and torque increased drastically, car felt like it wouldnt move when i removed the stuff b4 selling it
