I've just fitted a Janspeed sports cat. It made a hell of a difference though it was a b*****d to fit. It was only £62 delivered on Ebay but they are normally about £270. If you don't mind ripping your knuckles off once a year come MOT time, a custom decat is the way but I never want to have to go near my cat again after last week. If you don't fancy the hassle, try a sports cat.

I'm going to put a sports cat on mine next month....how come it's such a pain to fit....it only looks like four bolts and the two O2 sensors which need to come off and be re-installed.

Are the two bolts neat the manifold a pain in the ass to get to?

The reason it is so difficult is because the manifold studs do not have captive nuts on the manifold, they are normal nuts so it is a 2 man job. 1 Person needs to hang over the engine and twist their wrist to hold a spanner onto the bolts which only have limited head showing anyway.
Furthermore, the manifold to cat joint is right above the back of the subframe so access is limited at the absolute best.
My advice would be to use an open ended 10mm spanner on the bolts down the back of the engine as the flats of the spanner will sit better on the head although it will be more difficult to hold.
Whoever is underneath may find it easier to split the centre pipe 1st so the cat hangs slightly allowing access over the top.
I would also suggest having a range of rachet sizes, extensions and socket sizes as access is so limited.
It's a challenge but worth it in the end.

Thanks for the info mate....it does sound like a bit of a b**ch.

I changed the downpipe on my old Subaru to a decatted one and that was an absolute s**g of a job....access to the nuts around the turbo was so limited which required some interesting rachet setups!

I have access to some ramps which will help but I'll be prepared to loose some skin off the knuckles!
