De-cat n Backbox

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

Will a De-cat and back box be as effective as full system including a de-cat?

Ive got a back box and dont know whether to buy just a de-cat, the de-cat and rest of the system or a whole new system (including new backbox).

I currently have a piper back box.

from what ive heard the cat is the most restrictive part, so if you fit a decat it makes a fair difference to the low down grunt.

not sure of the differences a back box would add on top of that - probably very minimal.

Not too fussed about the back box its whats between the cat and the back bax that bemuses me.

I personally cant see what difference it would make.

Think I may just buy a de-cat and not bother with the rest!

Unless some one can tell me a reason why the full system would make a difference?

ive just got a decat on my standard exhaust - havnt bothered with full system as dont want that loud exhaust/boy racer sound.

am fitting it next week sometime

Ive been told the 16v exhaust is very restrictive. i went from standard to a cat back Magnex and its improved quite a lot. Havent put de-cat on yet as MOT is due.

If your going to do it may as well do it properly. centre section isnt to much. cheapest part of the exhaust. youll pick a second hand stainless pipe for cheap.

I fitted a de-cat wiht a peco powermaster backbox and i do get more power, its louder too.

I am selling the de-cats in the For Sale section for £30.

Basically if you replace the centre section you remove the centre expansion chamber and the pipe is of a larger bore,a llowing the gasses to pass out quicker
