De-Cat!!

Ok, possibly being REEAAALLLY stupid here, but if i was to completely remove the cat and just get a straigh through peice of tubing welded in place what would happen. LOL. I sound so dull.

Someone please help.

Cheers.:confused::D

  Clio 182 w/ cup packs

If its a 2003 Clio it probably wouldnt run properly because I believe there is a sensor on the exhaust which is after the cat so everything would screw up.

Mike have you been on a rolling road then? Youre car should run lean from standard so i bet its wild at the moment..or have you got a new ECU?

-Rob

no new ecu yet

but its on its way with a viper i hope but im only managing 23 mpg now and seem s to be quite sooty

Any ideas on where i could get a pipe made?

Would powerflow or someone charge a fortune!? Any ideas on how much it would be?

Cheers for the help guys.

Chris.:D

WTF!!!!!! 23 MPG HOW!!!

Surely that would require driving at 5+ all the time

Either that or the zorts making you car run like a sack of sh*te?!?

Ah all this exhaust talk is drivin me crazy!!!!

Ive got £760 in 20s bundled on a table next to me and the k-tec web site open in one page and a picture of powells twin exit powerflow on the other ........ humm....

If its a new clio dont take it out.it will make it run poor and youll have warning lights flashing at you(due to a downstream oxygen sensor monitors the cats emission output and it would think there ia a fault due to the high emissions because you have took the cat out).Older clios with 1 oxygen sensor the cat can be removed without affecting running but it will fail an mot.Really old clios(kreg etc)cat can be removed no problem.

chris listen to someone who knows what he is on about ie me (as i have had a decated 172 for a few months now) you dont need the second sensor confirmed by my renault dealer it dont make it run funny it dont bring on any lights it just sounds louder and gives you more power. but yes it will fail its MOT hence why i have my old exhaust with cat sat in my garage ready to go back on when needed

LOL. Nice one man.;)

can i once again dispel the myth that the cat is needed for the MOT, this is not true, they do not check for the cat

though mike, yours i think may fail on emissions, 3" bora and no silencing is not going to help matters ;)

your warning light will come on eventually but the engine needs to be running at certain conditions for it to apply the cat test+it has to fail the test 3 times before it will put on a warning light. The cat and oxygen sensors are self tested by the obd(on board diagnostic),this is contained inside the injection computer. Also at some point the police will be able to acces the obd system and check for emission faults(every new vehicle has this system by law but as of yet the police havent got the readers-they will have eventually). The downstream sensor is there to allow the computer to moniter the cat output/condition.Your a lot better off buying a performance cat this way you gain power and will never have any trouble(ktec make one).PS-change your renault dealer they dont know what they are on about!

emission output laws now are that strict that any new car without a cat would not pass an emissions test.yes your right that they dont actually check for a cat but they do check the emissions and the cat is there to reduce your emissions.

right its been on almost 2000miles and no light its done speeds upto 130 and still no light not one of us has had a light on with a decat draw your own conclusions

as you said, they dont check for the cat, therefore they cannot fail you for not having one

the emissions can still easily fall into the required boundaries assuming the car is well maitained

the obd can only test the cat under certain conditions(a certain revs for probably about 40 secs).these condition arent met very often and it has to do it three times so evetually you will get a light on but if its driven hard all the time it will probably take ages to carry out the three tests.

Just to add I have the same exhaust as Dogmaul and I have had no problems what so ever. btw the 2nd lambda sensor aint going to be reporting any errors as its not pluged in. there was no warning light complaining it had been disconected so i see no circumstances now where the light can come on.

my cars been running fine and my mpg is the same as before about 30mpg

unless your worried about the mot side why pay more for a sports cat when it can never give the same gains a full decat will?

very strange. i would have thought unplugging the sensor would have put on the injection light straight away. we get cars in all the time with oxgen sensor faults(up and downstream sensors).:confused:
