Ok, possibly being REEAAALLLY stupid here, but if i was to completely remove the cat and just get a straigh through peice of tubing welded in place what would happen. LOL. I sound so dull.
Someone please help.
Cheers.
If its a new clio dont take it out.it will make it run poor and youll have warning lights flashing at you(due to a downstream oxygen sensor monitors the cats emission output and it would think there ia a fault due to the high emissions because you have took the cat out).Older clios with 1 oxygen sensor the cat can be removed without affecting running but it will fail an mot.Really old clios(kreg etc)cat can be removed no problem.
LOL. Nice one man.Quote: Originally posted by dogmaul on 12 November 2003
chris listen to someone who knows what he is on about ie me (as i have had a decated 172 for a few months now) you dont need the second sensor confirmed by my renault dealer it dont make it run funny it dont bring on any lights it just sounds louder and gives you more power. but yes it will fail its MOT hence why i have my old exhaust with cat sat in my garage ready to go back on when needed
DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!Quote: Originally posted by dogmaul on 12 November 2003

your warning light will come on eventually but the engine needs to be running at certain conditions for it to apply the cat test+it has to fail the test 3 times before it will put on a warning light. The cat and oxygen sensors are self tested by the obd(on board diagnostic),this is contained inside the injection computer. Also at some point the police will be able to acces the obd system and check for emission faults(every new vehicle has this system by law but as of yet the police havent got the readers-they will have eventually). The downstream sensor is there to allow the computer to moniter the cat output/condition.Your a lot better off buying a performance cat this way you gain power and will never have any trouble(ktec make one).PS-change your renault dealer they dont know what they are on about!Quote: Originally posted by dogmaul on 12 November 2003

emission output laws now are that strict that any new car without a cat would not pass an emissions test.yes your right that they dont actually check for a cat but they do check the emissions and the cat is there to reduce your emissions.Quote: Originally posted by bambam on 13 November 2003
can i once again dispel the myth that the cat is needed for the MOT, this is not true, they do not check for the cat
though mike, yours i think may fail on emissions, 3" bora and no silencing is not going to help matters
the obd can only test the cat under certain conditions(a certain revs for probably about 40 secs).these condition arent met very often and it has to do it three times so evetually you will get a light on but if its driven hard all the time it will probably take ages to carry out the three tests.Quote: Originally posted by dogmaul on 14 November 2003
