de-phraser question????

Car  172 ph1
right....the bloke i bought the car off was a trader therefore didnt have a clue...so he said he had topped the car up with semi synthetic which i know is the wrong stuff but to keep it the same ive done the same! hurts me to say ive topped the car up with the wrong stuff but i was told it may congeal?

so after talking to someone the other day they said the slight engine noise is the dephraser and could possibly be it not getting enough oil! so could this be caused by getting the wrong oil? anyway im getting an oil change done soon so could this get rid of the noise or not?

cheers, Dan

Semi-synthetic will be fine, mate.

As for the noise- let someone who knows the cars have a listen. I've found that most I've heard /owned don't sound smooth. What's the noise like? Ticky, rattly, knocking, lumpy?

ahh...knew it didnt sound right cheers budgie lol as for the car no rattles nocks or anything only thing i can say is that its noisey like a whine? car pulls strong in every gear no problems just the noise

thats what i did mate it does sound different its just a different note! mind they were all ph2's but shouldnt b different right?

Just change the oil to the correct stuff. The "whine" is probably a Aux/alternator pulley, idler, belt. Not terminal for the engine but will need looking at if it's gets louder.

cheers boys it just sounds like its coming from in the engine but thats my thoughts il need to get it checked

I get a strange whine on mine when I first start it up on a cold morning, after about 2 mins it goes away.
