Megane 225 Turbo
In my quest for maturity and economy, it has led me to where I am now. A year ago I purchased a 55 plate Megane 225 FF, with every option going. I adored that car. FRSH, new brakes and tyres, the works... But something was wrong.
It had done 50k and it didn't feel right after a few weeks. Anyway, I won't bore you with the full story but it's ended up costing me over £2k this year alone to keep it on the road, needless to say none of that £2k is on brakes or tyres or other "expected" consumables. Every component of the steering and wheels have fallen apart or imploded since January resulting in this cost.
The car was from a main Renault dealer who at first weren't interested saying it was wear and tear, even though the problem was originally reported to them a few weeks after buying. After the threat of legal action they backed down and agreed to give me a very good price for the Megane, on the premise I had something more practical and cheaper to run. So here we are...
It's a Clio GT dCi 106 in white, with Carminat TomTom and Climate as options. Not exactly an exciting car but £0 road tax and sod all to insure, aswell as a quoted 64mpg, although I expect a little unrealistic better than the 22mpg I get now!The dealer sent me these pics today:
And finally, "My Baby" goes back to probably be shipped off somewhere. A bit of a bitter-sweet moment as I love the car, but it's the preverbial Friday afternoon, the steering now creeks again (there's nothing left to replace!) and it needs a cambelt and major service, aswell as an MOT and new tyres within the next 3 months, so financially, a clever move to get rid of it.. Still hurts though...
Will let you all know what I think of the GT when I get it Wednesday. Have heard the Petrol is a bit limp, as you'd expect but heard reasonable things about the Diesel. Let's face it, it's no Megane so I can't really compare, which perhaps is a good thing!
