Decat question

  Clio 172 Cup
Purchased my car a few months back.

Car has a Milltek system with decat.

Car went straight from the seller into the garage for a full service and MOT. And hence they had to put the cat back on.

I now have the decat back on the car, however here is a point i would appreciate any advice on.

The chap who sold me the car, when he had the decat on said he disconnected some wires under the car ( passenger side) and bagged the connectors (to keep clean)so as to ensure the serv light did not come on.

I have had a look to find the wires and do the same, but cannot find them.

Any one familiar with this ?

thanks

The chap who sold you the car disconnected the lamda (oxygen) sensor(s). Your cat should have a hole where the sensor screwed in. I'd start by that spot, and then work the way back towards the engine till you find the cables tucked away.

I removed the cat on my 172 but left the lamdas in place. It never turned the emission light on. I dont your decat pipe, but some have holes so you can plug the lamdas back in. Maybe they are plugged in and therefore you cant find the wires?

If your lambda sensors aren't operating the engine won't be running right if at all surely?

sounds like the secondary lambda sensor. Not sure how bagging it has stopped the light though.

It will be the secondary lamba sensor, commonly disconnected to stop the warning light coming up on the dashboard..

Putting it in a bag will be simply "protecting" the probe from the elements, as it will normally be screwed into the de-cat :)

you would still be getting a warning on the dash though

TBH, there very hit and miss.. I know some people who have had them unplugged and tie wrapped out of the way for months and not had any warning lights come up.

But then, I have been running a de-cat for 2 years, with the lamba sensors in the de-cat and not a hint of a warning light :)

Probably because it doesn't work. :rasp:

Mine came on after two weeks, not sure why it took that long but it's been on ever since. Suppose it can be hit and miss.

Thanks for your inputs, I will have a further dig around with the decat following your advice and see if I come up with the right combination.

Cheers
