Had my decat on for a while now and was just wondering what would happen if i got pulled over and the police relised it was a decat ( because it does smell quite a lot ) points or fine? anyone had experience with this situation? cheers.

The Police don't have any means of testing car emisssions, They would issue a vehicle defect form if it was to loud ect. Not sure how many day's you would get to sort it.

as said above its vosa you would need to worry about not the police, however a bigger worry would be in the event of a crash and your insurance finding out

But you can insure a decat.

Yes you can, but they have a disclaimer saying that it's the owners responsibility to ensure their car is road legal. In other words it's a way of taking your money but potentially not paying out when it comes to the crunch.

People say you're never going to get fucked with a decat, but the fact remains you're almost certainly not insured, and it only takes one jobsworth to notice the decat after you've just killed ten people to seriously f**k your life up.

I think you're giving the police too much credit. No offence to the police.

I laugh at some of the things people think insurance companies will notice aswell. Only if they knew.

So you keep saying gally, and I'm sure you're right. You're not gonna take responsibility though when Billybob ends up with a total loss no payout because he was unlucky. Technically, driving around with a decat is tantamount to willingly driving without insurance. Fact.

This is cold hard fact. Always best to make sure you give them zero reason not to pay out.

I'd always tell the insurance company anything i've changed on the car. Although I know they have zero clue, best to be covered.

I have a very good idea how they sound dude. On 'my car' (yawn) they spit flames, and crack and bang almost all the time instead of occasionally. I want one.

Mate i work with had a basic Clio back in the day. Lowered, big can exhaust, motorword special wheels. Anyhows he ended up running over someone, he ended up up the screen/on the roof. (he was fine btw!) Mods weren't insured, got a full pay out. Years ago I had a Punto GT with a full decatted scorpion exhaust that wasnt declared..... Ended up needed a new rear quarter panel after a telegraph pole hit my car (nothing to do with me reversing into one ) As it was fully comp with protected no claims I took a chance of going through insurance. Assessor came out and approved the fix nay bother.

Its the chance you take. My Clio is fully declared, only mod are the KW coilovers. However, i am toyin with removing the secondary cat. People who declare things like clear side repeaters/slver visions/stickers are stooopid imo.

As I said I could understand apprehension if you didn't know how it would be once on the car but they're clearly epix!

I doubt it'll do much to mine. I have a small sports cat as standard so I imagine it won't be that much different.

If you decide not to get shafted by your insurance and they dont pay out, its your fault. If you do pay, then good for you, prices insurance quote these days should include any mod!

The law sets the punishments not the insurance.

You take out a few folk and have found to be running a decat your not going to get a extra 5 years lol

im pretty certain there is no law against removing a cat, providing the car still passes an emissions test.

OBVIOUSLY the car wont pass an emissions test, but without testing it at the roadside, they cannot prove this!!

ive had my car checked over many times by police (they like pulling me over to check my car simply because its got a cage and such)
many times theyve looked underneith and must have seen my fairly obvious decat, but theyve never said anything about it.

However they then decided to give me a pg9 prohibition notice because my horn didnt work! i dont think they liked me

When I had mine on the Monaco, the police noticed it a lot but never did anything

Tbh I much prefer to have a decent sports cat
