Dephaser pulley

I think mines fucked (along with everyone elses according to the amount of threads I've read today)

Will an oil change quieten it down, or will I need all the belts + the pulley changed? Belts weren't even done that many miles ago :/

Before my car Was taken off the road I noticed a high pitched squeaking loud noise at high rpm. I think it's my dephaser pulley giving up the goose. Mine needs the belts doing hence why i have taken it off the road.

mine is also f**ked. from what i have read it cannot fail, only sound like a diesel for ever more. i have done c.20k miles trouble free (famous last words) on it at present and will get it changed when the car is due its next belt change, but not before - unless it goes bang that is, ha!

I'm new to these motors but have done some reading on the dephaser!
It's very very very rare they do go bang, but they do sound a c**t

Good pics.
I wondered what they were like inside.

So, how exactly does it work and what are the parts that make them become vocal?

Never realised the inner ring could be removed like the above picture.

When I split my knackered pulley apart one of those small square shaped pieces was really loose.

Cheers Fred :p

Needs oil anyway, got it up on axle stands yesterday to realise I didn't have the farking socket for the sump plug :(

Need to procure one from the Halfrauds now

Nice pics Danny. Never seen one taken apart before.

I had mine changed in December since it sounded like a diesel. :dapprove:
