DF0189 Fault Code

  182
Hi all,

Bought a 182 recently and noticed it doesn't rev past about 6200rpm (yes, it's up to temp and its a rev limiter its hitting).

I've just installed as RStuner map (stupidly cleared the codes without really looking beforehand), no change.

After a good run I plugged the RStuner back in and have a DF0189 fault. I can't find any decent information on this code.

Does anyone have any more information on DF0189 and if this could be causing the low rev limit?

Many thanks,
Nick

Quick forum search suggests
DF0189 Flywheel Tooth Memory

so to me it sounds like a dodgy crank sensor, which is fairly common. Check the colour of the sensor (think the newer ones are blue) also the wiring nearby as they are prone to failing.

Cheers I'll have a poke around. How can I confirm if it is faulty?

Normally they struggle to start, but I guess it could link also to limiting engine speed. For what they cost I’d replace with one of the newer ‘blue’ sensors and associated loom.

A Crank position sensor is used to calculate engine speed, so the ECu can adjust things like timing and fuel. Given your fault code and symptoms (related to engine speed) I’d say it’s very likely the cause

Wiggle the wires going to the crank sensor. If it's faulty it will most likely cut out. Mine did exactly the same.

Quick update on this, I took the crank sensor off to have a look and tested resistance.

Resistance was 220 which is normal, so gave it a clean and refitted.

Now the limiter is kicking in at about 4k rpm, so I'm concluding that either the sensor or wiring is faulty. Will order a new one and update again.

Final update, it turned out to be the connector to the crank sensor (as predicted by most).

Got hold of a black crank sensor, tried that with original connector. Wouldn't start, wiggle of the wires, then would start. Rev limiter all over the place.

Replaced with the new wiring harness and new crank sensor and the issue has been resolved.
