Did you give your 1*2 full acceleration in your test drive?

  330Ci (Fail)Sport
Got told off for giving it full beans yesterday on a test drive, only floored it in 1st on a long, wide, empty road to make sure it felt right.

Was told "no more of that :nono:, I could drive it like that once I bought it."

I've always accelerated hard into at least 2nd when testing driving a car to make sure it accelerated well, with no strange noises or feel.

Is this not normal?

Glad I'm not the only one.

I told the guy how am I suppose to buy a car without driving it properly and making sure its as it should be.

I think his response was "you can see its in good condition".

WTF has that got to do with it, didn't think I was being unreasonable at all.

It's all down to that person,

I took a CTR out once on a test drive and the salesmen was so nervous.

The Renault stealer that was trying to sell me a 197 when I went to buy a new wheel for the Trophy chucked me the keys and told me to take it out, waited till warm then ragged the b****cks off it - much like I do my own car - didn't like it. But yes I would always give it a foot full on a test drive to see that all was well.

Once it's warmed I work them hard.

I recently test drove a new Focus ST and scared the salesman, pulled onto the bypass and gave it full beans from 25 to 90 magic buttons. thru it into a few roundabouts until the back end stepped out, then blasted down some country lanes until the saleman didn't know where he was. I also did an emergency stop from 50, he was quite suprised by that, he said no one had ever done that before on a test drive.

Yeah, on another test drive, I floored it and was quickly catching up with traffic ahead and they guys just sat there saying it goes quick.

This guy was a nobber tho. Not his company, working for a very small trader (3/4 ppl), lounging about, office was a mess, wasn't offered a seat, claiming 8mm of tread when clearly about half that, dressed in trackies and spoke like a yob. Even the owner wasn't that good. Acting like the sun shone out of their arses, ended up just using them as practise for the next car I'll be seeing tomo, a nice flamer.

  172 cup
took mine out by myself before I bought it.
Knew the guy in the garage I bought it from.
Took it for a rape down the A1, bought it when I got back.

My 172, I went out on my own, so I spent about half an hour driving up and down the bristol bypass, and roads just off it. After about 15 mins I gave it hell.

My 182, when it was warm, I checked it pulled ok upto 7k in 3rd, and that was it really.

Unless you are over exagerating I think that, that is unreasonable. It very much sounds as if you were putting the life of your passenger at risk and driving way beyond the means of the roads.

Well i bought my 172 privately the guy was like give it some, he was encouriging me to give sum, think he saw the smile on my face when i booted it and knew he had sold it then lol!

Segwaying slightly, my mate used to work for a dealership, i wont say which 1, but we blagged it to take an ST focus out, 147mph and he ran out of private road and i had 130 and alot of private road left and was advised to slow down cuz if i stuffed it, he'd be in the sh*t! LoL

my 1st test drive of a ph1 he told me to stop being such a girl and put my foot down... i didnt buy that one.

never test drove thr one i bought.. didnt need to

my ph2 was buying it from a dealer where my mate worked, so he did the test with me... he knew how it was going down

He sounded like an idiot when i was considering a mk3 TCE i test drove one, gave it beans through 1st,2nd and 3rd then decided it wasnt much faster than my 1.2 16v. If i hadnt of done that i wouldnt of know if it was worth it or not so definately wouldnt of bought it anyway. On the other hand if it was fast enough i would have bought it.

defo. i would of got you to stop, taken over driving the car, and left you on the side of the road.

by all means put the car through its paces, but dont drive like a fuggin wanga!

Test drove a DC5 the other day, just for fun really, but gave it full throttle in 2nd and 3rd once, leant on the brakes once, and entered a couple of corners at a mediaum to fast pace.

if its a car with a good reputation, you dont need to eek every last drop of grip and power from it on a test drive. thats half the fun of when its yours!

I was ordered to give the CTR the full beans when I test drove one.

As for my 182, the first time I'd sat in one was the day I went to pick it up - lol!

If the value and appeal of the car has anything to do with performance then that needs to be tested tbb.

One test drive I'll never forget was a CTR, I took an extra long lunch break (3 hours) as I was basically invited to come and drive it as I showed interest a few months prior.

Salesman was a nice guy, knew enough and plenty about the car. I think that one went up to 120mph and then let off. As long as you keep it safe I don't see a problem (at least as the driver).

WhenI bought the Astra the salesman told me to give it some beans. He even put the sport button saying "you'll be wanting this on all the time" lol.

Its absolutly necessary to give it some when test driving, so you know the car performs as it should.

nice one thats how a test drive should be on a car like that

Dealer encouraged me to give a Cup I test drove maximum acceleration, 2nd gear upto 70MPH, seem to pull quite well.

You did right tbh.

On a test drive with another 172 Cup I did the same, and didn't get any response from the garage.

Good, I'll continue to do test drive like that. I still don't understand his reasoning.

I should have falcon punched him TBQFH.

Was that the one that fell to bits and cost you a fortune?

I was given the keys and let out on my own on most of the test drives I had. Had to give it some to see what it was like and make sure I chose a quick one.
Remember on one test drive the sales man came in the back with my old man driving. First off I think he was a bit scared of my dads driving then shat him self when there was a big bee buzzing round him in the back. Never seen someone jump out of a car so quick lol.
