Diesel to Petrol

  "Navy" N17 TWO
Maybe a bit of a silly question but can a diesel car be changed to take a petrol engine ? :clown:

Apart from insurance what would be involved ?
Say at least a 1.6 maybe -
A 1.2 would be pointless choice to replace a 1.5 diesel

A 172 engine is the best tansplant after all a 1.6 16 only make say 120hp with an exhaust etc not much more than a chipped dci80. Matt sells all the bits from a 172 for £1.5k+ vat thats engine, gearbox, brakes, driveshafts dials etc.

What would it cost to fit something like the 172 engine?
I'd need the petrol tank and fuel feed-lines too or would they be ok?

Would insuring it cost much extra than a standard 172 Clio ?

  172 cup'd extreme
your in NI are you not tigger? get a quote before you think about doing the conversion my hybrid costs less than a 172 cup to insure BTW

Oh it's only a mad notion I've come up with - be a LONG way off if it is done at all.
Just looking into the pro's & cons of it now

How quick is the hybrid ? ;)

Cool :)
what engine is in it ?
what bhp figure?
what's your mpg like?

I'm interested you can almost tell :clown:

Its the cup engine with a few minor mods, the wheel power is 152bhp rolling roaded this was before the inlet match on a 2000 mile engine, not interested really in figures i know its fast.
my saga of a 172 conversion is here further down http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=104764
What are modifed car insurance companies like to deal with in NI and at what cost?

Anybody know the details of what needs to be declared with insurance/tax/mot when you swap the engine?

well when you change the diesel to a petrol, DVLA need to change taxation class, the engien type and the engine number.

Insurers will probably demand an engineers report and may or may not after you spent the cash doing that choose to insure you.

whats you need is everything from the tank and fuel lines to the front end.

Heres a thought :star:
could always just put my alarm and interior in a 172 when I could afford to buy/insure one :sleepy:

Matt doesn't do these conversions any more if you can find a place to do it your looking at £500 to £1.5k.
Also your best off replacing the cambelt, ball joints, bushes and clutch.
