Diff Bearing? Vid Included

  RS 172, Z4, Elgrand
Hi all.
Not had the inner boot off yet to see what's going on under, I'll whip it off tomorrow weather permitting. What do you reckon? Obvious diff bearing? Got a bit of a wobbly shaft!

Well the wobbly shaft is most likely because the tripod joint on the end of the shaft has failed. That means a box full of needle rollers and a lot of damage I would imagine.
You're in for a full rebuild or fit a replacement box mate. I can help you out with a rebuild if you're stuck.

Appreciated thanks. It sounded like a bearing had collapsed and when I saw the floating shaft assumed it could have been. I know very little about box failures so thanks. It was making the noise regardless of gear, clutch engagement, speed etc which lead to me thinking driveshaft / diff. Should have a better idea later. Can you pm me contact details please @NorthloopCup

Anyone have a known good phase 1 O/S driveshaft or know of anyone breaking one?

Cheers

Took the shaft out, it's still intact. Looks like the tripod bearings have worn to the point where they are locking up / not spinning true.

Does anyone know where I can pick up just the tripod pretty please?

f**king result mate!!! If you're prepared to take a trip down to Lichfield, I have a shaft with tripod. You'd have to get the tripod off though.
