difference between claying and polishing?

I have using SRP until a friend bought a meguiars quick detailing clay kit and the results where much better and less hassle!

Just wanted to know the difference... cos if there isnt then ill just clay!

I think you're only meant to clay a couple times a year. It takes all the crap off that washing doesn't. You should use the SRP after claying and have better results.

Claying just removes any imperfections, dirt,grease,tar etc that washing just doesn't get off. Its abraisive and should only really be done a couple of times a year or the paint will wear down. As for SRP it fills any swirls and that. A good wax wouldnt go a miss for a bit of protection.

Not quite correct ^^^^

Claying removes stuck on above the surface issues that washing alone will not but WITHOUT removing any clearcoat/paint. Polishing removes defects in the clearcoat/paint itself such as minor scratches and swirl marks while restoring gloss to the paint.

After claying you need to polish and then seal/wax.
