Difference between JB1 and JB3 Gearboxes

anyone know the difference between the JB1 and JB3 Gearboxes.

Would b helpful to know...

• what makes the JB3 stronger
• what the differences in ratios are (eg. is there much difference in acceleration with them)

they're the same internals. just the bell housing is different.

Internals are different - there are hundreds of different JB1 boxes and JB3 boxes and i could spend the next two hours going through the different types and internal differences.

Thought you could pcik and choose? Why not just go for the original box for the engine?

Some boxes will have a lower or higher ratio than the original box intended for the vehicle. Some people change them for sprinting / track days to suit there own preferences

not bothered about top speed just need it to accelerate quickly thats why i thought the JB1 would be the best, plus ive already got one with only 9,000 miles on it! would a JB1 handle 130-140bhp?

Should do but at the end of the day Renault made the JB3 box for a reason.
