Difference in Track

trophy's are a bit wider on the front too due to the offset on the turni's i think?

172 cup is (off the top of my head) 20mm + front and 10mm+ rear (possibly the otherway round) Vs a stock 172

it wasn't just wheel offset as a lot of people think!

Odd that i was running 1 x 172 Ph1 wishbone and 1 x 172 Cup wishbone, which were the exact same dimensions when I measured them before fitting then? Just the castor/balljoint hole location was different... Ive since changed to two Ph2 wishbones due to fitting polybushes etc.

Also a 172 Ph2 Cup O/S driveshaft that I got from Specialist Breakers, which was the exact same length as a knackered Ph1 O/S shaft that I had, just a slightly different shape. Currently using the Ph2 Cup Shaft on my car with a N/S Ph1 shaft, no problems with it yet...

They may well have different part numbers etc, but the renault system don't show lengths/dimensions/specs. Ive got quite some collection of Ph2, Cup and Ph1 parts here and they dont look/measure any different dimensions wise......cant have been sold the stuff wrongly either as I removed most of the parts from the cars myself, lol.

So do You reckon the driveshafts were the same length ?

I've just changed my subframe over on my PH 1 172 and my wheels are now toe'ing out by miles, So now i'm guessing that the track has now been lengthened.

Hoping you guy's can fill in the blanks.... Did the Cup or Trophy have longer trackrod ends and driveshafts?

I'm trying to guess what spec this subframe came from or if my original sub was off a non-sport model.

This is going to get very messy, typical Renault.
I wonder if this is the reason for our race car trying to jump out the rollers all the time?

This is going to get very messy,

You just know it. Two T.R.E 's i can live with, But not too happy about changing driveshafts.

Not hard to do, but not looking forward to buying in stuff to find it not right either.

What do you think is causing it to jump ? The shafts running out of extendable length when it hunkers down ?

Whatever happened to Edde, he knew all this sort of (boring) stuff. I too thought it was mainly about the wheel offset differences :S. When I fitted 172 Cup shocks to my Ph1 172 the wheel alignment was out by miles (cue the American car wheel noise at traffic islands) I then got the impression that RS parts were not always interchangable. I think the Cups have their own driveshafts, the 172 Cup has stronger front hubs - different to non-Cup versions.

I've seen on a couple of site's ( Euro Car parts Etc ) They talk about Track road end's there being a " Short version " A longer version may well give me my toe settings back, But The drive shaft issue is still a blur.

I sometimes track this car so if it's going to show up a problem it's guaranteed it will be miles from home when i've just gave it some......:S

Yeah.... Where is Edde, Reading his old posts he knew his Clio's.

they're all specific, trust me!

So ideally, If i want to make this subframe work, i'll need to also need to fit cup hubs, to keep the front toe in check and driveshafts

( Assuming that it's a Cup or a Trophy subframe i've got ) This car has had some history, It might be the case thats it's been fitted with a stock front end.

I think i really need to find out what spec this subframe is.

Is there a part number stamped on on the subframe, I've got some PDF's of Renault Clio track dimensions and it shows the the cup is 1437 cm, 182 is 1430cm but have nothing on any other versions.

Can anybody add to it ?

Edit....

Autodata quotes 1406cm for a PH1 172, 1600/16v 1.4 & 1.2. So looks like early cars had nothing fancy up front at all !!

Right, Got my front wheels straight ( but not tracked yet ) and i have about an inch of thread in the trackrod end.

I'm thinking , Yeah that's enough but now second guessing if this enough.

What do you guy's reckon ? Does anybody have an old rack to measure what Renault set them to (depth wise)

It's steering so don't want to F**k about.

Cheers guy's

They were always calleed stronger hubs but in reality there no difference,

There is an article somewhere i wrote on the differences it maybe in the guides area but I cannot see in there I must have a copy somewhere I'll have a look some time.

Does anyone know if the wishbones have the part numbers stamped into them? I bloody hope they do, i need to order some new ones for my cup racer and have no idea weather its uses PH 1 or PH 2 wishbones. Uses a modified PH1 subframe i know that, this is going to cause i headache i can just feel it FFS. lol

All the wishbones are the same Ph1 and Ph2 172/182....? but dont know why they used different anti roll bars (22 or 23mm ends but 25mm main body)..
