Differences between iMac and iMac G5??

  Renaultsport 220T
There isn't currently just an "imac" for sale, the models are called iMac G5, or Intel imac.
They have just launched an Intel processor version, which is twice as fast, unless you are running Adobe software. It's currently about £100 more than the G5 version.

You should get a good price on the G5 version, depending on where you get it from.

Look at them on here...

Oh, had a look on the Apple site this morning and they were called iMac and iMac G5 :S We get a discount through Ch4 anyway and there is only a £30 difference between the two on the 17".

Will check that link anyway ta :)

I can get them cheaper than that link - iMac for 873.03 and G5 for 844.83 so I guess the iMac then?? :S

The new imacs with intel processors are the latest models, I would go for one of them.

Unless you are running Photoshop/Illustrator, as the software runs in an emulation mode, as it's been designed to run on with a G5 processor.

And this negates the 2 times faster, thing.

They don't tell you that on the Apple website.

It's only until Adobe rewrite them as Universal Binaries though, so will be slower now then a lot faster when the've redone them.

It's a no-brainer really. Go for the Intel processor one.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect it'll be long before a universal binary version of photoshop appears, adobe were one of the first people to put full support behind the mactel.

Apparently theres not a whole load of speed difference between native & emulated apps anyway - universal binaries are coming!

I wouldn't be buying a powerpc based mac if I were buying at the moment.

Hopefully a version of VMWARE won't be too long in making an appearance too.

It might be worth considering the macbook pro rather than the iMac, I wouldn't be without my powerbook now, so nice to just lay back on the bed and surf!
