Dilemma - Trading in the 200.

Need a little advice please people.

200 is going as it's getting no use and it's a pointless entity sat on the drive doing 10 miles at most a week. So, found a trader, spoken to him on the phone and guy sounds sport on... but he ain't local in the slightest to me.

Now, Renault Finance have a settlement figure of £12,300 almost and he's happy to pay £12k - I will pay the remaining £300 odd and it's spot on.

But i'm naturally nervous of the unknown. I'm basically taking my car somewhere I don't know, for them to be paying Mr Renault via CHAPS Transfer (in Barclays) and you hear all the scare stories and alike.

Nothing at all tells me the guy is of any issue but - it's the unknown.
Allvehicles, Unit A2, Ford Lane Ind. Est. Ford Lane, Arundel, West Sussex. BN180DF.

Any help - Advice is appreciated.

All vehicles have been selling renault sports for ages and he's quite big on the renault forums.

You will be fine.

I live about two miles from that postcode. Considered buying from him when I was looking for my 200, but he didn't have the right spec.

As above, I think you'll be OK.

Aye - good price, he's more than happy with the spec, but now I cannot get through to Renault Finance to get the Account details for the CHAPS Transfer for him! Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I sold my R26 to Steve at All Vehicles last year!

Never even managed to speak to him on the phone as we were always busy, did it all via email, he paid me direct into my bank, then as soon as it had cleared he arranged his driver to collect it, he came up and drive it away job done.

Very easy and pleasant guy to deal with so wouldn't worry at all mate.

Yep another one who has dealt with and knows Steve... not a single problem or bad word to be said about him. You'll be fine dealing with him :)

think this steve fella is good by the sounds of things.

to be on the safe side, id get the money transferred to my bank, then add the difference, then do the chaps yourself.

orrrr

just ring renault afterwards, chaps shouldnt take longer than 2 hours just to make sure.

and at barclays youll get a printed copy of the chaps so just make sure the details you get off renault match the beneficiarys on the chaps form

The thing is, i'm up north, he's on the South Coast - only day I can get there, a Saturday :/

So it's go down - get it CHAPS over and IF RUK are open on the Sat (Financial) I can at least hang about till cleared. If not, it'll take balls to hand over the keys and hop on the Train!

chaps wont get done on a saturday.

can do faster payments but i think thats a 10k limit.

it might be a part cash pay in and part transfer (transfer will take 2 hours though) to either one of your banks then the one person pays with their card.

Could be interesting then - as i'm sure the woman from Renault said it's got to be a CHAPS from a dealer.

I aint going down, seeing it paid and handing the keys over without proof it is 100% paid... I'd be too worried.

Is the liability over you or the car?

I guess the car... i'm going to a place I don't know - to a bloke i've not heard of, handing a car over to him that isn't mine, but he's paying the owners for it (Renault), then I'll need to come back on the Train without proof it's 100% paid for.

It's just a complete head f*** lol

Well, doing 10 miles at most a week - sort of requires me to really not bother. It could be, for the first time since 17 (now 35) that I wont have a car!

Few ideas though are on the table, because i'll get bored and want a toy to fiddle with.

1. MK1 MR2 Supercharged.
2. C1/Aygo with the c1gti.co.uk Turbo upgrade.
3. MX-5 1.8i sport
4. Panda 100HP
5. 205GTi (My 6th) or 306 Rallye.
6. S1 106 Rallye

And a few others that may crop up as I go. 172 too could be on the cards, not sure yet.
