Dilemma

  R27 LY
I've got a DCi just now, but I'm looking to buy a 197 cup, an F1 or the old cup. The main reason I'm put off by the old cup is it's just pratically the same as what I've got just now, just with more power and better handling. The new one looks like a better package all round but I've heard that people have said it's not very quick. Also, that mpg is not very good on the new one compared to the old one.

Well either will be a lot faster than what you are used to. I'd say go for the newer shape if you can afford it.

  A4 DTM/iceberg cup
i was toying with the idea of the 197 but i dont know of one that gets great mpg. but then most are still running in. i can see 40 plus if im sensible on my commute and its a laugh to drive. still not convinced on the new model yet.

Do a search buddy.
New one is fantastically capable and arguably the best RS Clio to date as a package, handling is brilliant its well put together etc.
Its probably not as fast as a 172 cup, although i wouldn't like to say either way.
Fuel consumption is almost certainly down on the new one with some owners claiming under 25mpg.

any-one who says a 197 slow is used to sub 6 second 0-60s imo, between the 197 and my friends 172 I noticed virtually no difference in straight line speed, its been said before but its all down to who hits the loud pedal 1st. Just out of interest, you listed a cup and the R27 have you not considered FF197 with cup pack?
I sat in a cup and to be honest the difference in weight wasn't worth the lesser interior imho. If you are unsure of the older model clio's as its similar to your current clio then go for the new model defo. That is the reason I went for my 197 over a 182, well that and I wanted to be the 1st owner of the car for a change lol.

Best thing to do is dead simple. Test drive a 1*2 and a 197 and decide which you prefer. If you decide 197 test a cup and a 197FF to feel the differences. Chassis wise, the cup is the same as the R27 however the Recaro's are superb.
