Hi guys, i am the process of fitting a 172 engine into a 182, but i have come across this pipe, there is no place to plug this into the rear of the 172 upper plenum. Whats it for, and do i actually need it?, as am guessing the 172 that donated its engine didn't have one.
I`d say it is the vacuum pipe for the carbon canister under the RH headlight.
The 172 inlet manifold connection point is close to the RH top engine mount.
You can cap the 172 manifold connection if you are in a hurry, and then ponder to keep the canister & swap/modify manifolds in your own time, or just remove the whole set up.

The ph2 172 connection is on the RH side of the lower inlet.
Can I see a bolt pushed into it in your photos?
Perhaps you could get hold of the shorter Ph2 vacuum pipe?

Yeah that's right I stuck a bolt in there as I thought it was not needed being a different breather system to the 182. So if I put the original metal fitting in that pipe, and I just use a 172 pipe everything should work as intended?
