DoDo Red Mist- Suitable for clay lube?

Si

  RS Clio 172
As title really. I'm looking for a new quick detailer and keep reading good things about red mist but i'm also after a product that'll work as a clay lubricant.

Quick detailers i've used in the past have been fine for this, i just wanted to check if red mist would be ok too? saves me buying 2 products.

Cheers!

lol. cheers for that. i've tried using a shampoo solution before also but it just ruined my clay.

I can't really justify buying a product just to use as clay lube as i only do it twice a year at most. might have to get a different quick detailer.

I just used water in the end... the clay bar I had from i4detailing said it was ok to use... hasnt damaged it at all.

Wouldn't do that again mate, the idea of clay lube is to have lubricants under the clay. You are going to seriously marr your paintwork doing it with just water mate.

Si, just get a QD (red mist if you want) and some bilt hamber clay which doesn't need lube :)

There's always megs last touch. It's good as a clay lube, ok as a quick detailer but I think there's better out there.

iv always used megs gold class shampoo mixed with water

f**k forking out for a bottle of detailing spray everytime you want to clay the car.

not had a problem yet

Im going to have a go mixing things around, Pro Detailer, some citrus wash diluted...

I think providing the clay your using isnt the aggressive stuff you should be ok with shampoo mix.

Or buy Megs No16 for bugger all, dilute it loads and stop being such a mincer Luke ;) haha, YHPM buddy.

That should of said water and shampoo  just something to give it some lube as you said.

Wanting to try some LT so got some coming.

Did think that Rich, but only after I posted chap.

Cheers for info. I'll have a think.

Si, Megs N016 is very cheap and a good all rounder. Problem is that I use it for drying, detailing, lube and a few other uses (bit on a MF for the interior dust is great :)), but it is so easily diluted it is great!

I have good things to say about both companies, in a blind date style, the choice is yours!

LOL! Yeah agreed.. like I said Id prefer to get it all from one place but sometimes I do a half and half.. although then I find I buy some random cloths just to boost my order up that I dont really need or want :(

JD I thought you were going on about the paste wax when you were suggesting N016 lol! I'm sure that'd work a treat on the interior etc :p

I find last touch is great as a drying aid and clay lube, however I've not been overly impressed with it as a qd lately. Just doesn't seem to give anywhere near the same results as a bit of glaze or similar.

i'm gunna get the last touch for random stuff as i wont mind using lots of it and still get some red mist as a qd. DONE. Rich, i'm texting you

I am?

Jokes, no the qd from Megs.

Why are you using a glaze for a qd fella?

lol I'm not, I'm just saying it doesn't seem worthwhile using the last touch as a qd as the results are nowhere near the same as using a bit of glaze or a wax (albeit it does take a bit more effort!).

Usually i dry the car with the last touch, then buff up with a microfibre. The finish is good, but as above, could be better imo.

Can't believe you got my 8k post cherry.

Anyhoo, haha, yeah, a bit o glaze/full detail would be easier than a quick detail ;) but that's why it's called a qd ;)

Should I feel honoured :p

I think the LT is meant to be more of an aid so to speak, as it doesn't offer any sort of protection compared to the likes of red mist.

Without trying to steal si's thread, anyone got any experience of red mist/zaino z8 etc etc? Been looking to try a decent qd for fcs or whatever.

The Z8 offers a tiny bit of protection IIRC. But in all seriousness, needs to by QD like Megs then some spray sealent on top. The QD is not designed to be a layer of protection, just a quick wipe and remove dust aid.

When going for QD's I fo for something multi purpose (to save buying different ones for different tasks)

Atm I'm using Clearkote quickshine, very lubricated so good as a clay bar or polish pad lubricant, great as a drying aid, cleans windows, trim and leaves a good finish. Cant ask for more than that!

Have also recently bought one from Optimum so will see how that goes too

Clearkote quickshine or optimum's detailer would be my QD's of choice. :D

+1

On drying the car with Last Touch, seems to help alot with drying just a spray or 2 on each panel and job done. :D

I spray it on the whole car, leave for a few mins, then dry and a quick buff after :)

I think I'll try some of this serious performance show car detailer next, seems to get good reviews.

I use the same technique Rich, but I spray on each panel then work my way round from first to last panel after spraying.

I have so much protection on the car that I do not require anything on top, as it is likely to be just washed away, therefore the no16 works a treat as a lubricant when drying and dust removal at shows etc.
