DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY KNOW

  Nissan R35 GT-R

It will vary from car to car. Its dependant on tyre pressures, coolant temperature, ambient air temperature, oil temperature...the list goes on.

Search previous threads as Im sure the technicallities have been discussed in depth (to save repeating).

but no one actually ever know, someone will say one, then another comes up, there must be official guidelined figures somewhere

Get the brochure for a 172, and it will tell you in the the tech data at the end what the gear ratios are, and it will give a calculated final drive ratio. Divide the power output by this ratio and that will give a rough idea of the output at the wheels.

You could stick it on an engine dyno if youve got a bit of money burning a hole in your pocket. ;)

  Renault Laguna Coupe

That sounds about right!

1. Test car on RR - note ATW figure;

2. Remove engine, set-up on dyno, note ATF figure;

3. calculate difference.

4. remember, everytime you change the tyres, the oil or just about anything else, you need to repeat 1 and 2.

I reckon this ATF stuff is all a con. The manufacturers tell us that a 172 has 170bhp, but weve no way of testing whether an individual car really does produce this figure. It would be a whole lot better if everyone stuck to ATW figures that we could actually test!
