Does cruise control use more petrol

Okay, but Id also read somewhere that it doesnt as it is more stable than keeping your foot on the accelerator as your foot moves very slightly up and down while your driving and so accelerating then decellerating often. Whereas the cruise just maintains a constant level of petrol. Something like that anyway...

When JC drove from london to edinburgh and back on a single tank he said the cruise control was using 3 mpg extra, so he had to turn it off.

yeah u not see Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson drove that audi from london to edinburgh and back?
 


i get about 6-7mpg extra on long distances with the crusie control on. as someone said the thread that you will always accelerate and slow down with ya foot. then this of course leads to less mpg
