Does EBD have any advantage

I think (but am not sure!) that I have EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution thingy) on my Mk1 172. The problem I have noticed is that when braking hard(ish) at high speeds my car wobbles/weaves about slightly on the road which feels very hairy!!

Could this be the EBD thing? If so what the hell is the point of it? Is it chassis flex that could be sorted by a strut brace? Or could it be my tire pressures

Any advice offered would be appreciated. If there is no advantage to the EBD I may as well cut the damn wires!!

Its just a characteristic of the 172. They do squirm under hard braking from high speed. I doubt its a fault with the electronic brake distribution.

But on a safety aspect, get your local Renault dealer to check it out.

Better safe than sorry.

I think I will because it feels dangerous. The arse seems top wobble about and you have to jockey the steering wheel a bit to gewt back in control. I dont think this is just a feature of the rear brakes because the whole car just feels that bit unstable. I try to use the gears to brake at high speeds no if possible - is this gonna feck up my car?

Weaves under Hard Braking????? I dont like the sound of that at all!

Could it be shocks? Has it always done it?

Its only done 25K and the springs (-30mm) only went on about 1K ago so I am hoping its nothing to do with the shocks. I think it has always done it yeah.

They can be quite unpredictable when driven hard and braking hard. It does sound like it just a characteristic though, especially as its done it from new.

the 172 is and has always been twitchy under braking, the rear will squirm as there is minimal amont of weight over the rear tyres.

Once you get used to it and adapt or adj your driving to brake a tad earlier or use it to setups for the corner, its not such a problem. As long as you dont abuse them, they wont bite.

cord-172..............just a question............since lowering the car, with the 172 having rear disks, have u altered the brake bias valve thingy???? i.e the thing that notices if the back end is sitting lower, and feeds more brake force to it - thinking that there is more weight in it - which obviously there isnt, its just been lowered...........so more braking power to the rear wheels, making it a bit hairy...........just a thought buddy..........i have DRUMS lol

That might bhe an interesting thing to get looked at because when it went in for its service recently they said that the rear brakes were 50% worn and the front were 25% worn (which I though was wierd) - Will ask a mechanic mate about it. Where is the brake bias valve thingy?

Mine weaved about under heavy braking (especially at high speed) from std and things have improved a little with the Eibachs fitted. From what I can gather, its a trait of the 172! Its a little un-nerving, to say the least....my old Fiesta turbo (heavily modded) was far more composed in similar circumstances.

However, a Clio Cup Racer mate of mine has a possible fix, which Ill be getting fitted asap...its supposed to dramatically reduce the "wobbles"!

i dont know where it is mate, i just know they exist...........like i say, i have drums lol

Yeah they tend to weave a bit under heavy braking, but Ive found it to be more noticable on uneven roads but nothing that cant be controlled easily.

Even under extreme braking on a bad surface Ive found to car to behave nicely (this was braking in a straight line).

Get your bias checked out since that could be induced to swing the back out if you turn the wheels a bit.

Mine weaves all over the place under heavy braking and has done since new, especially when I anchored on at 125mph recently after my radar detector went off!
