Domain Buying?

I want to buy a domain name so i can have my own e-mail address and possibly a few other family members aswell.

A few questions:

Is there a web application where i'd be able to link my e-mail too so i can check it anywhere?

I've seen on a website I can buy it for £5.98 for two years, where can i buy it so that i actually own it for life?

You never own a domain name for life. You just renew it every 2 years.

You need a host. I use Telivo where you can buy email hosting and they also have webmail so you can access your mail online.

You can even buy the domain through them aswell.

Depending on where you buy it from (I use godaddy.com) then they have a GUI type thing that you use and you just get the details to link it with outlook etc from there.

As said you can't buy a domain for life but if you buy it for 2 years they will send you an email asking if you want to renew the domain before your 2 years runs out.

Well, you can buy it for longer terms than 2 years if you wish.. depending on the tld (.com is different to .co.uk... .com allows for yearly renewals if required, whereas .co.uk is minimum of 2 years) and regulations.
Some allow 10 years, but yea, you'd have to renew it after that too.
