Doors Automatically Lock?

  Renault Clio 172 Sport
Hi all,
May be a very silly question but i never had this with my other 172, why do the doors lock when the engines on and i drive away? Is this normal?
Is this something thats always been and maybe my other 172 had a fault with this function?!
This is a 51 plate 172 and my old one was a 2002 (same model though).
Can you turn this option off? Its kind of annoying.

yeah it locks above 4mph.
theyrs a way to switch it off though ... cant remember how

Yes turn it off by pressing and holding the dash doorlock button for 5 seconds. It's part of RAID though and it locks at a certain speed once the car is started. All mk2 ph2's have the feature.

Its called RAID, its selectable if you read your hand book.
All 172 182 cars have it, as do some other models in the range.

Many Thanks guys... when i test drove it on Friday of last week i initially thought there was an electric fault!.

Oh and the problem is i dont have an owners manual with the car, it was lost by the previous owner... thats one of the reasons i got the car for a bargain price.

Will switch it off tomorrow.

I switched mine off for some reason a while ago and can't remember how to switch it back on :( Manual is in a box, in a room full of other boxes, somewhere.

Mk2 ph1's have it too - Just hold down the "lock door" button for a while. 10 secs maybe?

i like having it on

Never no when some scatt going to try jump into your car..

Although i was thinking yesterday as i was walking to the lights...

Imagine someone just stole ur car and they come driving past and you cant open the doors coz its locked from the auto-lock!

Or if you have an accident and they cant get in... but my logic says if your in that bad an accident then its not likely you'll have windows LOL

Yes does make me feel safer tho, especially driving through dodgy area's

If you were to crash the car, there is a switch under the bonnet that throws the locks open, switches the hazard lights on and shuts the fuel pump off.

All cars with central locking and fuel injection have them, its called a "Crash switch" or inertia switch.

It has nothing to do with the SRS thats a separate system.

If its not behind the battery Fred,
It might be on the A post flitch plate passenger side.

Didnt know there was a switch !? Just thought in a crash its meant to unlock. (edit: or is that the same thing lol)

I never have it on. For some reason the noise really bugs me. My grans clio has it on for obvious reasons but i seem to think that anyone trying to steal my car will get a bunch of 5s lol..... although i do have my head in the clouds and would probably say "on you go" if they start pulling out their ghey knifes etc...

If a fuel line broke in a crash, the last thing you want is the contents of your tank pumped onto a hot exhaust, thus the crash switch. Its a required safety device.

In parts of London they will have your passenger door open and your phone, nav unit, and anything else lying around, before you could blink.

Yeah, thats why i say my heads in the clouds. Think its just where i drive usually is all fairly safe, or should i say 'not as skilled/formulated'.

When driving through places where there are alot of people round the car i sometimes just press it just incase, or when i express my annoyance to a car cutting me up in london, only to pull up next to them at a set of lights to find 4 big black guys looking like they want rip me apart lol

I know it doesnt hurt to just switch it on and get on with it, but the noise just annoys me too much. lol

My wife has a 2003 Clio Initiale and she always used to have RAID automatically lock her doors (She works nights) as a safety thing.

However last time her car went in to an independent garage to have some work done, when she got it back the doors no longer locked themselves.

I tried holding the switch on the dashboard as per manual but no joy.

The garage who say the are Renault specialists (Ex main dealer trained mechanics) have no idea how to fix it.

Does anyone know how to reprogram it, or is it back to the main dealer (25 miles away)

Thanks

Alan

You need your ignition on , then press the button for 5 seconds to activate/deactivate .

a button that opens doors puts hazards on and things? what button are you refering to the inertia switch??
i thought it just cut the fuel pump.

D

dick

i dnt think its an actual physical finger switch, probly sumthing with a g force monitor on, and when above a certain force, opens doors etc, hazards.

i managed to set the hazards of on a fiesta by braking hard into a corner, (s**t cars)

all clios have this, good idea for lonely women leaving somewhere in the dark on there own! Had someone try and get in my mums clio when she were leaving a party one late night.

Thanks for all the quick replies,

Holding the button in is how I set it up to lock automatically, I have tried this again but it wont have it.

I know I am doing it right because I can activate / deactivate it no problem on my daughters Dynamique.

I can only think that they must have disconnected the battery while it was having the work done and its knocked something out of sync, maybe there is a way of re programing it?.

All help and advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alan
