Had some strange problems with it actually (not 64 bit on general.



2gb of ram would be fine, i could run it at above 1066 and the cpu at 3.2ghz.

However with 4gb, having the cpu at 3.2 would only let the ram run at some random number like 1033 or something like that. So by changing the cpu to 3.199ghz i can now have the ram running at 1066. wtf.

With 4gb of ram i couldnt have the ram running at above 1066 either.

Mike if i were you, i'd perhaps consider looking at the bios on the mobo since thats what will be the limiting factor with overclocks...(if you're that bothered about 0.001ghz hahah )

if you now have memory in all slots on your mobo whereas before you only had 2 then this can cause it on some mobos/chipsets.

ah i c i was guna update the bios but in all honesty its working fine as it is, i can live without the extra 1 mhz tbh it wont kill me.

Mike, 4 sticks of RAM often dont agree with Overclocked Quads, it puts too much strain on the NB. I had the same problem when I stuck 2 more sticks of RAM in, but i tested each individual slot and stick with memtest separately and they were all fine. What I ended up doing was selling my crucial ballistix on ebay in 2 listings of 2GB, got £30 for each and bought a G-Skill 2x2gb kit for the same price, job done!

i run x4 1g nvidia ocz ram and did in the same board with a quad....hence it's likely to be bios related..

Terrible isnt it.


All working okay now, although i have issues where ill turn the pc on, and itl restart after the POST and then boot back up and be fine....

I might take Keydoggs idea and use 2 x 2gb sticks.


But im happy running what ive got now, for the sake of that extra 1mhz i dont think ill bother.

if you are on 32bit the max u can get is like 2700gb of ram no point in 4...

The maximum memory you can run on a 32-bit system is 128GB. The maximum you can run on a 32-bit DESKTOP is 4GB, less any Memory allocated to other resources. On a system with 2x1GB GPUs, that's less than 2GB available to your system.

So, back in your box...

As for running 4 sticks of ram, you'll need to increase both NB and DDR voltages to make them stable at the same speeds, as has been said more stress is placed on the NB when overclocking a quad than with a dual.
