Driving to a hault

  Clio 1.5DCI
Was hitting just below 70 yesterday along the motorway, kept the speed steady for a good while but after about 15mins the car started to slow so I put the foot down a bit more to about 1/2 or 3/5s but still nothing, the speed gradually dropped until a was hitting just under 40. Couldnt even pull over to hard shoulder because its closed of at the mo. The car started to be become really detached from the road as well and the steering becoming heavy.

Anywaz, stopped the car for about 20mins drove of and it was fine, decided to use the A roads home. ;)

Anyone know what might be the cause of, Im driving a clio DCI 80

Thanks

i remember this happened to my dads Kia a few times (no laughs lol) well its sorta similar....he started it up and went to drive but the engine just idled and wouldnt pull at all, left it a while and it was fine. ive a funny feeling it was something to do with the accelerator cable. they had it on the machine and it came up with nothing, so i think it was the cable, not 100% but theres a possibility

Thanks for the help, think a trip to renault is on the cards tommorow. I thought it might have been the cable but had loads of other things in my head spinnin around like the turbo goin so there was no pull, ecu fault, dirty injectors, etc etc.

LOL, kia:eek: probably more reliable than a renault any day though

your problem is dodgy connection to alternator
yeah I'd go with that happened on my old astra. Eventually it died completely.
I charged the battery and it ran fine for a bit then died again
If it gets worse try charging the battery and see if it goes away for a while and see to that alternator

Thanks to you all for the help, looks like it was the alternator though, took it to renault today and they spent ages looking at it. The car was just in for its 80,000 mile service 3 months back so I got a new alternator for 1/2 price.
The odd thing though is the lights on my car wernt affected when the alternator was going, everything was still running smooth.
