Driving with Fog lights on.

Ive just fitted 2 new gorgeous white foglights on my car (THANKYOU FATHERTED!) Finally finishes the front of the car off. While my dad was fitting them (hehe) i menchioned wiring them up to main beam.. and he made the point. you dont drive in fog with your main beam on! so wouldnt wiring them up to that be pretty stupid?

In heavy fog main beam just bounces back off the fog. Its usually best to use your fogs lights and side lights in those conditions.

Surely there is a switch for them?

Saw a Clio with its fogs on the other morning. I had sunglasses on!!!

plllleeeeeaaaaaseee dont drive with them turned on unless it really is foggy cos otherwise it looks stupid.

as said putting your full beam on during fog just makes it worse, therefor there is no need for your fogs to come on during full beam.

Fogs dont really do that much in foggy conditions anyway, the give a bit of light right infront of the car, but not of a significant distance to make a difference.

might as well wire them up on the same loop as the rear fogs as in theory you will only have them on when its foggy and hence have the rears on too, if you want them seperate you will need a switch which you can either get in halfords or demon tweeks and i think a fuse and relay too

I dont have them on when its not foggy, and i have 2 switches for my front and real fog lights.. i was just stating that wireing your front fogs upto main beam is stupid.

You dont wire them up to the main beam.. you wire driving lights up to main beam if you have them.. fogs should be totally independant.

I agree with KDF, they dont really do much in foggy conditions at all, the best thing to do in foggy conditions is drive slower & be very cautious & aware...

The only good thing about wiring them up to your main beams would be its very easy for people to see you flashing them!!! I had a jeep until 4 weeks ago... & had 4 fogs on the front & 4 spot lights across the top of the roof & it was very novel & cool when I flashed someone to go coz they all came on! but its just a gimmick really.

Although having them all on going down a country lane is an advantage coz the more light the better when its pitch black!

But I agree, having you fogs on whilst driving in normal conditions is a bit sad to say the least... my sister does it & no matter how many times I say turn them off she dont listen!

it is actually illegal to drive with your fog lights on, if its not foggy!!!! have known loads of people get stopped by the police and warned about having fogs on!!!

I dont have that choice (not that I do it!) @ the mo as cant switch mine on, so even if its foggy can only have rear fog light on

Well.. I think for today, i deserve to drive around with my front fogs on, since i bought the car at christmas theyve been f**ked, and i havent been able to use them at all.. so for one night only... shell be bright and sparkly!

ditto, and to agree with the other guys the reflection off of fog when you put main beam on is awful like a big white blurr only a couple of car lengths ahead making it really hard to see. slow up stick the fogs on and even if its a really dark unlit country road keep the mainbeam off

If I was a copper I would stop you give you the 30 quid fine and then thump you with the baton for being a dickhead.

Then again they wouldnt let me become a copper so I suppose your safe.

Got arrested once for reversing (quite deliberately only stopped cos I was on his bonnet and the wheels were off the ground) into a twonk with the fogs on behind me, the joys of ford sierras. He and his wee pals stopped laughing then I tell ya.

if im sat on a dual carridgeway on a clear night and some muppet comes along behind me with them on and sits on my arse i put my rear fogs on to piss them off until they take a hint and switch them off. another time i pulled in and let a HRV (dont get me started on the muppets who drive these) past then put my fogs on and sat right up his arse to give him a taste of his own medicine

sometimes its easy to forget you have them on though. also depends on copper wether you get a fine or not. my bro was driving through fog on top of a hill, came down the hill and at the bottom copper pulled him over and gave him a fine for driving with his fogs on! my bro said "its foggy up thy hill go take a look yourself" and he just said "yeah right, you aint getting out of this one" !

its not that easy to forget, you will have 1/2 lights on your dash reminding you..

Plus everone will be giving you the universal w**ker sign as you drive past..

oh and fog lights are only if visibility is reduced to less than 100yards not just if there is a bit of fog in the air.

it is actually a very serious crime round here to drive with your fog lights on (when not foggy) so much so the the local plod have crack downs every now & then & give out tickets !!!

obviously after they have solved all the petty crimes that happen....I.E = rape,gun crimes,drug dealing,shop lifting,fraud,burgulary etc etc !!





& no before you all ask, i dont make it a habbit to drive round with fog lights on !!
