Driving with no tax and test

Allowed but must be prebooked too.

The place I went to doesn't take bookings for retests, otherwise they charge for a whole mot :/
They just squeeze it in when they can.

I also need to bed in the read brakes to avoid failure on handbrake function :/

You can drive your car to the test station regardless of where it is as long as its booked in. However as soon as you touch a road with no tax you're breaking the law. Simple as.

You are allowed to touch a road to drive to and from the MOT test with no tax.

Then you will be breaking the law when you return for a retest not booked in.

Lol at this younger generation shitting themselves about driving on the road with no tax or MOT.

No one has any balls anymore.

If you dont stunt drive a banger back a car from a purchase at least once in your life, then you havnt lived.

Likewise, you need a question mark if it is a question. So the meaning is lost because you are not writing English. Why not get your own s**t in order before criticising others?

as chip says. but if you are stopped whilst on the way to a prebooked mot and you have say a bald tyre you can still get points for it.
if the police find it un safe they can issue a prohibition notice.

you are covered to drive home/place for repairs after a test even if it has failed an MOT a tester can not stop you but if you are pulled over its up to the officers if he thinks it is safe.

That is just as per if you are driving a car with a week old MOT as well though of course.

Yes this is correct, if it fails an MOT, you are allowed to drive it to places of repair afterwards still, not sure on the time limit for that though as it wasnt something I discussed with the DVLA at the time (in fact I think it was ben lee that informed me on that matter actually) but Ive confirmed it on the past on their site that it is the case that you can do so.

He doesnt have to prove any such thing.

It is 100% entirely his choice what MOT station he uses, location is irrelevant.

This. We get a chap from london every year for an MOT, half the time its a month out of test and he hasnt had any issues

Going to buy a car this evening that has no Tax - can I drive it back?

If I get pulled no chance I can say I am en-route to a post office / local DVLA as they will be closed.

Ask the seller to tax it for you and you pay for it when you collect the car?

Police don't care about you having no tax, as long as yout are insured and MOT'd you'll be fine.

If you were unlucky enough to get pulled the most they would do is report it to DVLA, but i'm asuming you plan on taxing it sometime soon so that won't be an issue.

Incorrect.

A lot of Insurance policies nowadays state the car must be road legal to be insured - if you have no tax then the vehicle is on the road illegally and therefore your insurance is invalid

I would imagine if you got stopped on you I way to a post office with correct docs in the car you would be ok, but it is a risk

Ive only ever seen "roadworthy" as a condition rather than "road legal" TBH

But even if that is the case, insurance liability for 3rd party isnt easy to get out of, so probably only effect the fully comp element, which isnt a legal requirement.

Not sure you're correct there mate. What about insuring SORN vehicles.......... You DO NOT have to have tax to have your car insured. Having no tax will not invalidate you're insurance.

Not quite, i got a £40 fine through and back dated tax of £27, its a grey area

Fred, did you actually get stopped and that's how they found out or was it because the tax hadn't been renewed etc? I'm asuming it was DVLA that fined you, not the police?

It's crazy that tax isn't something you can just call up and sort out (like insurance ) it makes collecting cars etc a pain in the ass.

just got a letter (didn't declare SORN), the way i view it is as they sent me a fine plus back dated tax it was taxed the whole time
