You can drive your car to the test station regardless of where it is as long as its booked in. However as soon as you touch a road with no tax you're breaking the law. Simple as.

as chip says. but if you are stopped whilst on the way to a prebooked mot and you have say a bald tyre you can still get points for it.
if the police find it un safe they can issue a prohibition notice.
you are covered to drive home/place for repairs after a test even if it has failed an MOT a tester can not stop you but if you are pulled over its up to the officers if he thinks it is safe.
He doesnt have to prove any such thing.
It is 100% entirely his choice what MOT station he uses, location is irrelevant.

Police don't care about you having no tax, as long as yout are insured and MOT'd you'll be fine.
If you were unlucky enough to get pulled the most they would do is report it to DVLA, but i'm asuming you plan on taxing it sometime soon so that won't be an issue.

A lot of Insurance policies nowadays state the car must be road legal to be insured - if you have no tax then the vehicle is on the road illegally and therefore your insurance is invalid
I would imagine if you got stopped on you I way to a post office with correct docs in the car you would be ok, but it is a risk

Not quite, i got a £40 fine through and back dated tax of £27, its a grey area
