drums to discs conversion

ive been looking throught all the old topics along this line

i found a few topics saying that it would be a BIG job

i just wanted to know if anyone had looked into this or actually done this to their car

(ps its a 2002 1.6 16v)

i think u need the whole rear frame from one that has discs

yeah isnt the only one they do discs on is the 172/cup???

best bet is the upgrade ur fronts to drilled or grooved

the 1.6 16v has rear discs IIRC !! Should be able to swap rear axle etc then its just a case of the hoses etc !!! waste of money TBH u wont need the stopping power in a 1.2 !!

Hmm, just get an axle with all the brakes currently on.. and everything.

Ok, Discs dont do much better at the back, but they look better! Heh.

Was looking at doing it to mine.. just need one from an RSi.. (no wider track like the 16v)..

Dunno if 172 is wider at the back?

i know the front of a 172 is wider so does n e one know if the back is wider

i dont think the cost is that much of a issue as long as is isnt a grand +

your would have to plumb in some sort of bias control aswell as your drums wont have any and 172 axles dont have any....they run off the EBD and ABS computer dictates bias......forexample, if you remove the ABS control then youll run a 50/50 split which aint good.

Does that mean if the ABS develops a fault, and the ECU disables it because of this you will have 50/50 distribution ? isnt that a bit dangerous if you have to stop .. eg. rear end swinging out ?
