Dump my IK

Hello peeps. Im new here so go easy on me please if this has bin asked plenty times before. I have an 03 172 with a K&N IK. I have an additional intake pipe coming from under the protective bit under the engine thus giving me two air intake pipes. I have heard various posts on here re running rich when IKs have been fitted. What does this mean and should I change this for a good panel filter in the standard air box? Any help is most welcome.

i think the standard ecu is ok with induction kits and exhausts.if you go any further the ecu will need attention(chip etc)

Welcome to the forum Parky. I have read several threads on K+N flters fitted to 172s actually reducing performance, due to them sucking all the hot air from the engine bay.

Jay mate, I take it the standard ECU is adaptable to a certain extent in that it will adjust fueling rates to compensate for the extra air entering the engine?? I suppose it must be able to to some degree as temperature affects air density which would occur with or wothout induction kit??

(Forgive me if Im talking sh*te BTW, still very new to the wonderful world of engines!!)

its ok to a point but if your going further than just the ik and exhaust you would need to look into chips etc.ive got a exhaust and ik on mine and its fine.going for the modified inlet manifold next so im going to get a group n ecu at the same time.

A stock ECU mappedto GrpN regs, i.e. standard to an extent bar a few fueling, ignition and rpm changines. Basically the same as any other off the shelf chip.
