Install "any DVD" which runs in the back ground

Then Use "1click" dvd to back up all dvds including red sony ones.

Its illeagle to copy films and is fround upon so do so at your own risk.

Hm, my first questions would be:

Are you sure you have a DVD writer (stupid question, but people at work regularly think CDRW can write DVD's)?

Are you sure that they are the correct DVD discs for your writer? I suggest Imatation/Verbatim DVD-R 4.7gb.

Make sure you're putting the disc in correctly, and not upside down (this isn't an assault on your intelligence, but my jobs ensures im a sceptic).

Check to see if you can burn CD's, if you cant burn a CD either, then:
-Your drive might be facked.
-Your drive maybe installed incorrectly.
-You may need to reinstall the driver through device manager.
-Your OS may need an IMAPI driver installing.

Will the drive read a retail CD and a retail DVD, and also previously burnt media?

Lemme know, but sounds like either a device error, or some sort of media issue (perhaps try another brand). If you get lucky try burning some media on 4x speed.

Ok theres a start.

Try burning a CD mate and see if it works at the moment. That will prove the drive is functioning and that it's installed correctly.

Then try reading a DVD and see if that works ok.

Lemme know.

Right done some research on this, here's your answers:

The QSI SDW-041 is a DVD+/DVD+RW burner, therefore it will not write DVD-R media.

I suggest first of all you try burning some DVD+R discs, and if you still have that issue then download the following file:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp27001-27500/sp27495.exe

That will flash your device with the latest firmware, and it should then resolve any issues with the device. It seems that device is plagued by issues, as theres plenty of people with the same issue as you.

Hope that helps, keep us informed.

Yes mate its unusual to get just a DVD+R these days, usually multi format as DVD-R is more commonplace.

Now you've established you've got a dvd+ writer , try clonedvd again mate , and see how you go .

The discs you copied are blank you say ? Did you try to play them in a dvd player , not your pc ??

The only programs i ever need to use are clonedvd2 if its larger than 4.7gb or nero to do a straight copy if its less than 4.7gb. Also get anydvd like racey jace said .

I don't bother with all the big fancy names of discs . But i always make sure the discs have the ritek g05 dye ( dark purple ) i've burnt 000's of discs and never had a problem with them.

If you look for nero , i wouldn't bother getting one thats a large file , the one i have is only 20mb . Look for version 6.0.0.15 , its an older version but its served me well ;)
