Ecu swap on ph1 172

Hi all im After a little bit of help I bought a ecu for my phase1 (group n) and didn't realise that they had to be unlocked before they can be used. After trying it and it just cranked!
Is there anyway of getting around this or is it a case of sending the ecu off to Renault to be unlocked?
