Hi,
My 172 Clio is declining to start most of the time - there's an issue with the electrics. The garage that it has been towed to are very out of their depth with the intricacies of Renault electrics so any advice on here would be very gratefully received. It's getting to the point of scrapping the car which seems a shame for the sake of a loose wire and/or poo mechanic.
Car is not starting.
Battery is fully charged and functional - it has been checked/charged.
Immobiliser red light is solid when the ignition is turned on - occasionally this has gone out and the vehicle has started but only very intermittently.
Headlights, indicators, hazard warning lights, central locking all not functional - this has led the garage in the direction of a faulty UCH unit.
Earths in engine bay have been checked - initially this was the diagnosis from the RAC - but the car has apparently been extensively drop tested and the garage assure me these are fine.
There is continuity in the fuses/relays so these have been ruled out.
UCH unit was sent away to be repaired and this didn't solved the issue.
I purchased a 2nd-hand UCH, ECU, key transponder and Key - this still hasn't solved the issue. The new key is still not being recognised by the new UCH.
Continuity to the key transponder has been tested and this appears fine.
My garage is now out of ideas on where to go.
I've tried to find an auto electrical specialist in Central London to come and have a look but that has proved difficult.
Given the intermittent nature of the initial issue, I still suspect a bad connection in the wiring somewhere but i'm no electrician and any specific areas to test would be gratefully received.
I've spent a lot of time searching and haven't found anything specific. White clip at bottom of fusebox has been looked at. Would the earth points on the dashboard be potentially be causing an immobiliser issue?
Thanks in advance - i'm always amazed at how helpful this forum can be at times.
