Audi TT
Hi,
Last night I started my car and it made an odd noise on starting which I couldn't work out exactly. It sounded like a whining or a pump type noise coming from the front of the car.
The noise went away as I drove up the road so I thought nothing more to it. When I got nearly home as I slowed from the nationals into a 30 I noticed a burning smell which was a plasticy type smell but as I was driving past some roadworks I thought it was them. Then when I got home I pulled onto my drive and the smell was really strong. I jumped out and thought I saw a little smoke or steam come from the driver side headlight area. On popping the bonnet I couldn't see any smoke coming from anywhere but there was a really strong smell which seemed to be like electrical or a plastic type smell.
The smell was there again today driving to and from work and after asking a couple of people to have a look as well we seem to think it could be coming from the alternator or certainly that area of the engine.
I've quite recently had the belts including tensioners down at Carlton in Exmouth. My mate suggested it could be a possibility that the aux belt was over tightened and it has screwed the alternator. I've no idea if this is possible and wont be able to ring carlton to speak to them for a while and definitly wont be able to get to see them as it's 3 1/2 hrs away
Anyone any ideas or come across this before?
Cheers,
G
