Electrical Problem

My uncle has an Clio Extreme on an 02 plate and every now and again the car looses power steering, wipers, electrics windows. Is this a common fault as he has been told he needs a new column! Can anyone shed any light on this??!

Could just be a loose connection, has he checked to plugs behind the steering cowling.

a cell or two have gone dry in the battery. new battery and it will sort it.
