Engine Management Light Stuck on! Please help!

Hi everyone!
I bought my Clio sport about a month ago and all I have done since i bought it is spend money on it fixing it! :dapprove:
My engine management light is stuck on constantly and when driving the car, it seems to hesitate a lil bit in 2nd and 3rd gear between 2 and a half thousand revs and 3 and a half thousand revs. Then when its passed 3 and a half thousand revs, i can feel the engine speedin back up again then.
Does any1 know what this might be? :S
I have changed the coil pack and leads, spark plugs pretty much everything but i just cant find the fault.
Also, when i turn my steering wheel left or right even if i move it a slight little bit, all the front end of the car makes a big loud creaking noise. Any ideas what this might be? Ive bought Anti Roll Bar Links and a driverside driveshaft, do u think this will cure it?
Also, im gettin alot of electrical faults with this car. When i indicate or brake, my back fog light in the dashboard comes on. Also, when i pressed the horn down for about 6 to 8 seconds, there was loads of smoke comin out of my actual indicator/horn/foglight stoke.
Its a 2001 1.2 16v Sport model.
Do u think there are major faults with this car?

That need to go on a ramp for an inspection really, front end creaking could be a number of things and i wouldn't just throw parts at it and hope, that's the expensive way round it normally.

management light... really need to plug in to diagnostic and see what the fault is, but sounds quite like a lambda fault to me

Yeah i think thats prob a good idea. My dad changed the Anti Roll Bar bushes yesterday after my local garage sayin thats what it was, but when i drove it it was still really creaking. My dad seems to think that Renaults have alot of problems with Top mounts going? R these expensive? I'm takin it to a side garage on tuesday and the man is supposed to be really good. I've spend nearly £200 on parts for this car since i bought it and its making me a lil bankrupt now :-(
As for the diagnostic Machine, i can get my car looked at for £20 so maybe it would be better to do this rather than buy loads of parts cause im finding it really expensive.
Also, u know u said about the Lambda, does that make the car smell if you go a certain speed, as i find that when i go about 75-80mph, it sort of smells. I cant really explain the smell, its sort of an eggy petrol smell? Arrr! Frickin car is doin my head in! :-(
I'll try the lambda tho, or do u think i should put it on a machine first?

top mounts are common, about £30 a side IIRC. I had a creak and this fixed it

Is £30 with fitment too? Whats IIRC mean? lol Im havin a blonde moment! )
Do u think its worth tryin to change the 2 sides? I think the passenger side has definately gone though cause if i push pressure on the passenger side of the bonnet to move my suspension up & down its quite loud creaking. Its quite embarrassing cause its loud when being driven too. Any sort of uneven ground i drive over its just a continuious creak.

Ahh thanks Renknow! Your a sweetie! I'll try and remember for next time, although im not as wet as most blondes daft i mean! I think i'll just shut up cause im just lookin more dizzy everytime i open my mouth shamer!
I gotta ask u 1 more fing, whats the s1 mean on ur car? And the c182? Does that mean its super quick?

Hi Stacy,

Yeah, Id change the two top mounts at the same time, its best when doing the front suspension like that. Like you would have to change both shock absorbers even if only one was gone. The top mounts should eliminate the creak. As for the smell, are you getting the smell inside the car when you go over a certain speed? If the lambda sensor is faulty then it messes with the fuel and airflow resulting in the fuel economy being cat. When the lambda went in mine she went through a quarter tank of fuel in less than 50kms Still best to have her checked on a diagnostic machine though.

Oh and Renknow has a Series 1 (S1) Escort RS Turbo and a Renault Sport Clio 182 (c182). Hope this helps and that you get the car sorted out soon enough

Ahh thanks Andrew! Yeah it sort of smells inside the car, I've never really stuck my nose out the window to smell outside when im drivin up the motorway. Should I try? Its definately an eggy smell, and i used to get 50 mpg bt now he's only givin me about 85ish to a tenner. Also, what do u think the holdin back could be in the engine? It does it if its cold or hot (the engine i mean) and it seems to be really jerky & juddery in 1st gear and it hesitates alot in 2nd gear (I wrote in my 1st post it was 2nd n 3rd, bt when i was driving 2day, i noticed it was 1st n 2nd gear. It loses alot of speed from these 2 gears.
I'll get it put on a machine like you said i think!! )

I've got the same issue atm. Lambda Sensor on Bank 1 (closest to the engine) needs replacing.

my eml came on and came back with bank 1 sensor fault, ordered a new sensor and before fitting it the bloody light went off...........do i wait for the light to come on again or just replace the sensor with the new one?

billy - replace it. How much was it out of curiosity?

Stacy - where abouts in the UK are you? The creaking definitely sounds suspension related, but it could be a few things as previously stated.

The fog/indicator/light flashing thing is water ingress or possibly a bad earth behind the rear lights. Get these checked out and it should cure it.

Mine did the same. For a year! Cleaned sensor a number of times in between sorted it out. I've got my MOT coming up, its about time I replace it before it does some permanent damage to the Cat.
I suggest changing.

As Da asked, how much did you pay? Original Renault?

Hi B1lly! How much did u pay for ur sensor? Do they have to be specially fitted at a Renault Dealer or can I just get my dad to fit it on for me?

Not sure if the EML will just go off or you need to get it connected and have the codes cleared.

Water ingress means leaks, condensation, check the seals on the lights things like that basically.

And from the 'eggy' smell would suggest lambda first of all but a diagnostic machine should highlight this - connect it up before spending any money could save you some pounds in the long run.

And would also fall in line with your poor fuel economy as well.

Yeah, water ingress means water getting in somewhere it shouldn't and possibly corroding the connections in the lights.
Check for rust etc this will be a dead giveaway.
I am in lancashire myself, you're a little far from me - was asking as often if you're close it's easier to have a look than try and work things out on here.

The eggy smell and poor economy is almost certainly the sensor as mentioned and from my experience the EML should go off once this is replaced.

bank 1 sensor is the one before the cat so thats the one i've bought, hope so anyway lol, the advert does state its the front one, the guy on ebay does sell the one after the cat too

I found out what my creaking problem was with my steerin, I took it to a diffrent garage and the man said it was a left hand side Pendulan bush or something? Any1 heard of 1 of them? I'm so relieved so its booked in for monday now! Cant wait to get it all sorted!
