was gna get an engine start button can stuff go wrong with it and they cant drain battery power etc can thye?

Its not that difficult to wire up. Dn't see point. You'd to make it easy still have to stick the key in and turn it almost all the way.

  FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU
I have one, you may have to turn the key then press. but you dont half look cool doing it, other people love it.

I'd go with the honda s2000 one as well tbh, yeah you still have to turn the key a few times, but they are cool - my coupes got one (standard)

you can get one were it goes on your keyring and you can start your car without ever getting in it, now thats cool,

i can start my car via remote, the ole clifford g5 alarm ;)

works wonders in the cold, start it in the house and wait 10 mins for it to de ice or warm up

love it.

and to say it comes as standard with one of the best alarms around i aint complaining.

Got the phone module on it as well so i get texts if my cars being tampered with etc. You can even start the car via text if you are out of range with the remote. Good if your abroad and stuff and want to make sure battery aint drained. Although one of the features is that it starts the car auto if temp drops below a set degree or if battery starts to get low.

ultimate cool alarm

Its illegal though to not be sitting in the drivers seat car when the engine running
How so?!

The car is still imobilised, still ave to get in and start as usual without turning to starter.
Its the road traffic act says any running car engine connection to the normal drive train (hence why generators on the back of truck are ok) if its running needs to have a driver in the seat.

Its part of the road traffic act.

The cars not imobolisedd if the engine running the imobiliser only works on the engine.

This is what the law says…..

According to The Road Traffic (Construction and use) Regulations 1986;

Regulation 98; the driver of a vehicle shall, when the vehicle in stationary, stop the action of any machinery attached to or forming part of the vehicle so far as may be necessary for the prevention of noise or of exhaust emissions.

Regulation 107; no person shall leave, or cause or permit to be left, on a road a motor vehicle which is not attended by a person licensed to drive it unless the engine is stopped and any parking brake with which the vehicle is required to be equipped is effectively set.

As the road traffic (Con & Use) only applies to vehicles on the public highway, you can remote start a car on your private property without commiting the offence......any where else, have your licence ready.

Yep Edde is right.
There is a distinction between private property such as your driveway and private property to which the public have access, such as your works car park. You can be done in the latter.

Its the same thing with the Tescos car park and boy racer meets problems.

I would'nt link a Clio up to the standard alarm..................

You can buy remote starters that will fit as a separate unit in addition to the alarm, but you must remember these things first popped up in the US where the vast majority of cars are slush boxes.

When they are fitted to cars with manual boxes, they really should have safety switches fitted on the gear linkage or your pride and joy could end up in your front room.

my house is situated at the end of a street. I have a drive which isnt classed as public access. I also have a car park at work soley for the use of staff and signs clearly state there is no public right of way.

either way i doubt a copper is going to be stood next to my car ha!

also the clifford system has built in protection so you cant start it if your in gear (bascially when you turn the car off you have to press buttons on the fob, remove the key (the engine remains running) then close car up and lock it (engine thens turns off and its in arm mode ready to be started)

so even if you wanted to put it in gear you couldnt, because you would have to open the door again and that takes it out of its "waiting to be remote started" mode.

its very safe, but then again i cant say the same for the cheap models on ebay etc

Nope but if you ever have an accident with the engine running and you not in then the police could charge you plus insurance is invalid.

A sign means nothing though if the public have access its public right of way.

fair point. but i very much doubt i will have an accident on my works car park, all double spaced with ballards protecting each cars bay. very unlikly anyone is going to bang into it. and even if they did they would pay for it and not moan about insurance void or anything, its my works at the end of the day. no deliveries go on there, only staff parking.

same applys with the drive. i technically its illegal, but theres 99% never going to be anything come of it.

Edde, how do turbo timers work then mate? - are they illegal too? or is it only the turbo that remains running... (if that makes sense)

  255 V6 Black Gold
well the engine is completly running.

its exactly the same as when i get out my car and leave it running.

either way, no one would ever get done for it, not unless you were being a price with the police giving them reason to quiz you.

also edde, i spoke with human resources at work

the car park is not public right of way. The key card entry and barrier mean its solely for the use of the company.

£800 mate

fitted by gap security

reduced my insurance by a fair whack

he came to my house on a sat to fit it. took about 3 hours.

there are cheaper placed out there, and the alarm is less on ebay, but i was confident in gap and there work so i used them.

remote start etc was included

the mobile phone texting module was not. thats extra and did me an offer so, just get blagging on the phone. tell um you want all in package for £700, if he says no just barter

he will try and talk you into how good they are as a big sales pitch etc. Just listen then barter, best way,.
